| | | Hello from sunny England!
Hi all, hope you are all well!
My name is Kerrie and I am currently living in sunny ol England (well its sunny today anyway!). My hubby will shortly be moving to Switzerland for a year long contract so no doubt I will be posting lots of things on this website asking for various amounts of help!
We are very much looking forward to a lifestyle change, moving to a new country and experiencing a new way of life.
I look forward to posting on this site and perhaps speaking so you on a whole range of subjects
Take care
Kerrie

Welcome , enjoy your last days where you can go to westfield until 10 pm or buy food at tesco at anytime or do whatever you want on Sundays because this isn t possible in Switzerland, want some change? you will get it. If you like skiing you will be happy though, this is the coolest part

Thanks for all the messages. Westfield!! Lovely shopping centre but way to busy for me, especially on a Saturday. I've only been skiing once, managed to survive however I'm not totally sold on the idea yet, think I need to take some proper skiing lessons.
Can I be cheeky and ask what you all most like about being in Switzerland compared to the UK?

Hi and welcome!
I used to live in south London too! I feel safer here but then again I never had any problems in London either.
Westfield - I recommended that on another thread and got groaned for it! |

And yeah, get shopping out of your system you wont get much of that here but you'll get tons of other things in return if you don't like skiing wait till summer as there are lots of things to do around here too and lots of it is only minutes away!
I lived in south west London! Agree with all of above FG and I used to love shopping at Westfield, the best place to go by car and a baby and it bits the bad weather! You'd got a thank you from me, not a grown I miss Westfield and Tesco 24 hrs!

It is moving from a world metropolis to places where the largest cities are slightly larger than Paddington/Bayswater/NottingHillGate/HighStreetKensington combined ! For comparison, Zurich has the size of about Manchester or Edinburgh or Toulouse, and Geneva has about the size of Bristol or Bordeaux (Yes, Toulouse is larger than Bordeaux). It needs to scale down on one side, but very important on the other side, to include the WIDER surroundings into life. If in Zurich, places like Zug, Rapperswil, Jestetten, Konstanz and Schaffhausen are to be included into considerations as "outer suburbs", and if in Geneva, you ought to regard the surrounding French area but also Thonon, Evian, Coppex and Nyon into your understanding of "Greater Geneva". Special in Geneva is that the "mountain of Geneva", the Salève, is on French territory.

Otherwise the big difference for me is no tube but trams and buses instead which is nice and they work extremely well. It s more relaxing. It s much more stuck up, don t be surprised if you cross(as a walker) when you shouldn t and everyone looks at you like if you just robbed a bank.

Firsly, have never heard of Westfield. Maybe it's because I lived in the country. Generally the quality of life is higher here. If you are lucky you could live by a lake & have views of mountains at the same time. If it is cloudy in the valley in the winter, then you can take a train & be above the clouds in blue sky in no time. Things are clean & punctual here (as expected). We live just outside Zurich & have acres of woodland behind our house &, amazingly, in 10 mins we can be in the equivalent of Bond Street! The railway system is very efficient. In shops people have time to serve you. On the negative side, health care is very expensive, clothing choice is limited & sizes are small (you may still have to go to M & S for underwear), essentials such as marmite are also expensive! I don't ski (don't get it) but spend as much time as possible in the mountains. There are plenty of "winter wanderwege" - walking trails as well as sledge runs. Also in rural areas, plus cities there are well marked walking routes. Hope this helps.

Oh and in term of food you find real good food for cheaper of what you could get in UK, traditional good cooking is affordable
