| | | From (sometimes) sunny Melbourne to snowy Basel
Who am I? Aussie girl, early twenties, from Melbourne (as the username suggests)
And why I am here? While working in Basel for 12 months in 2008 I (very inconveniently ) fell in love with a Swissie. After a year of long distance I have now moved back to Basel to live with said Swissie.
Apart from the neverending cold I absolutely love it in Switzerland; the beautiful surroundings, the yummy (but very bad for me) food, the history, and that really annoyed look the Swiss get when their train is running 2 minutes late (in Melbourne, if it's 2 minutes late, it's early)!
I'm looking forward to spending many more hours trawling through EF forums, and hope to get in touch with some fellow Aussie expats in the area!

I think it's wonderful that you're reaffirming our right as dodgy Ausländers to call our hosts Swissies.
Couldn't said Swissie move Down Under?

| | | | | I've been asking that myself a lot lately; everytime I look outside and see snow (I got excited yesterday when I heard it was going to be 10C next week; in Australia that's almost a reason to cry)!!
We might eventually end up back there, but it was easier for me to get a job here, and I'm also determined to learn to speak his mother tongue (Swiss German) which is only really possible when living here!

Hi Miss Melbourne!
I am also a Melbournian, married to an Irishman, living in Basel, well, just across the border in St Louis. Glad you are enjoying Basel - it's brilliant to see someone else from Melbourne, so I had to say hi! |

Wellcome to Basel, and never mind about the weather, I'm from Spain and it's not that bad!

Hiya Miss Melbourne,
We flew out of Bris-vegas on new years eve and are now living near lake Zurich.
I am missing the warmth and sunshine. And although the snow is great when you go to the mountains for some skiing and sledging (aka toboganning), around the house I can say quite frankly I am ready for summer!
And bring on the humidity! :-)
Cheers,
Robyn

Thanks everyone for your warm hello's, so great to see how many Aussie's are here (and all the other equally lovely nationalities)!
I've been so excited about the weather forecast for today and tomorrow that I've already got out my t-shirts, thongs and sunnies (perhaps a little early off the mark) and for the first time in my life, I'm praying for sunburn!!
Enjoy the weather, and have a great weekend!!

hi and welcome missmelbourne,
Another melbournian here. Been living here in canton schwyz for 4yrs now. I do love the lifestyle that Switzerland offers us, especially now with kids. But the things I still miss after 4yrs... late night and sunday shopping, fab&cheap asian food, markets, meat pie, hot cross buns, crumpets and the smell of eucalyptus in the air after dad has mowed the lawn
Amongst other things, what I love here is the public transport system, the nature, the relatively cheap travel, pommes, quark and the cleanliness.
Enjoy your time here...
S.

Welcome missmelbourne from another Aussie. I live in Aagau with a swiss. I have also been looking forward to the warmer weather as I am from Queensland and this indoor life is sending me crazy. Maybe if we all fire up our barbies at the same time it has too be warm! Wishing you a wonderful week end and enjoyable time here in Switzerland

Welcome back MissMelbourne, also a fellow Melbournian but yet return to Switzerland. My wife is missing home so we intend to return to Zurich in May.

I would suggest an Aussie meet up, but all the Aussies I know (aside from me) are either pregnant or have newborns. Something in the water .

I have only one boyfriend, but he's generally self-sufficient enough to leave at home alone .
To be surrounded by Aussie accents for a few hours would be amazing! Maybe some afternoon beers one weekend?
