Sydney Gal in Basel

Hi everyone,

I thought I would pop in and introduce myself. I have just moved to Basel from Sydney 2 weeks ago (yes very new still!!!) so settling in slowly and trying to have a look around and meet new people.

Its so quite compared to Sydney!!!!

Can't wait to start exploring as long as I get the hang of looking the other way when crossing the road and not getting myself run over!

Kylie

Re: Sydney Gal in Basel

Hi Kylie,

I'm another Aussie living in (near) Basel...there seems to be quite a few of us now, which is nice! Hope you are settling in well. You will definitely find Basel a lot quieter than Sydney, but it is lovely and nice and compact, if you like that! Watch out for those trams too - they don't stop for anything or anyone! They're brilliant for getting around and exploring though. anyway, welcome to Basel

Welcome to Basel.
Basel can be quite fun with the right people Keep your eyes on the social calender!
And it will probably be quite lively tomorrow at St. Patrick's day. You could maybe have a look at Pickwicks or Paddy's.

Ah the washing machine. I am still trying to figure those things out. The first time I used it, the machine went on for more than 2 hours and I had to manually stop the cycle. I used the "delicate" settings 40 C and 20 minutes. Unfortunately, the manual is not in English. The machines here are different than the ones I am used to in the US.
Another very important thing, if you have a ceramic cook top, make sure you use appropriate utensils and wash the cook top with specific cleaning supplies (there are some threads on that).
Another "problem" that I am facing is that the important letters that I am getting from migration office are in German and therefore I have to "bug" the German lady in our office who can help me understand what it means.
But I suppose these are expected issues and with time things will get better.
All the best!

Re: Sydney Gal in Basel

Welcome to Switzerland, yeah I miss Sydney, miss the beaches mostly. It's pretty quite here most of the times, and dare I say it - very different. That said, you only live once, go out and enjoy no matter what the cost.
