Not much to be nervous of in Switzerland, unless you don't like neat and tidy, clean, orderly, well behaved, well regulated, that sort of thing. There's not much crime. I hope you have some form of income, or lots of savings, or a rich partner/parents because its is expensive.

Hope you both enjoy it.

Welcome to the forum! There is lots of info and help here to give you an idea of what its lilke. It is a lot of fun, but like menace said, its very expensive, so make sure you have yourself set up right with your salary/package. Hope it all works out for you!

Enjoy!

Re: New to the forum and maybe new to CH

We are new as well. 6 of us (me, the missus, and our four kids) are moving to the Zug area at the end of July, for work. We previously lived in Budapest Hungary for 6 years (2002-2008) and have spent the last 2 years at our home in Utah.

Kids are excited (finally) about learning German, and we are still a little on the fence about schooling--whether we want to go the international school route, or dive into local options. The company has approved the international school funding, so we have options and a little time to decide! Your recommendations/experiences are MOST welcome, particularly if you have kids in our age range--15,13,11,9.

It's good to be here, and we are excited about this move!

Re: New to the forum and maybe new to CH

Hi everyone,

I'm new to the forum also. I'm hoping to move out to the lake geneva, vaud canton area in the next few months from London. I'm doing it by myself though so am pretty scared about the whole thing but have always wanted to live in another country and think now is the time to do it. The prospect of meeting new friends and having a totally different way of life is exciting.

What's Lausanne like? I want to live somewhere that has lots to do but my job will be in Lausanne to im also not up for a long cummute.

I'm sociable and would love to meet new people if anyone in the same boat.

The comments on here are so funny and definitly keep me amused!

Have a great day everyone, and thanksd for your help so far.

Re: New to the forum and maybe new to CH

Hi Simsy,

I have been living in Lausanne for around 6 months, and I have to say its quite lively (at least for swiss standards!), before coming here I had some preconceived ideas about it being a boring place, but I was quite surprised, there is a nice nightlife (with the big universities there are a lot of students all around), live music, bars, restaurants, museums and now that the good weather seems to finally have arrived it will be a great place for outdoor activities.

If you are going to work in Lausanne I would recommend you to try to find a place nearby, but be patient, the housing situation is quite bad, although not as bad as in Geneva, as I heard.

Welcome and if you need to know something else let me know!

Jose
