Greeting from Zurich

Dear All

I have just moved to Zurich from the UK - I arrived on Saturday 2nd of June. I have relocated lock stock an barrell and am in the process of moving into my new apartment (hopefully soon as was meant to be Monday) and starting my job.... All very daunting as a new country but seem to be settling in, just about.

Any tips on places to go/avoid in ZUrich guys?

Look forward to hearing from you all.

Craig

Re: Greeting from Zurich

Hi Craig...and welcome.

Check out Ashley's fortnightly drinks in Zurich, the next one being tomorrow night. It's as good a place to start as any.

Mid-week Drinks at the Cana Bar

Hope to see you there

Re: Greeting from Zurich

hey there, welcome to Zurich.

I hate the prices in bars/clubs here too, you easily spend 30-50 Franks in one average evening going out, it's horrible. Unfortunately everything is quite expensive, but well, it's Switzerland...

When you ask what to do and what to avoid it would be great to have some information about what you're looking for

Even the high end of your scale...CHF 50.. is only the equivalent of £20. I guess it depends where you come from originally but I would always be pretty happy to have had a night out back in the UK and only spent that much...

Gone are the days I could have a bellyful of beer and a donna and come home with change from a fiver

I see your profile says you enjoy watching/playing footy. We have a game every sunday in the middle of town, if you'd be interested in playing, feel free to send me a PM.

Hi Craig and welcome to the forum.
I am sure some of the people here can help you out looking for what you need.
Be specific, and someone will put you through the door. (almost)

Re: Greeting from Zurich

I guess I could go through as one of the poorest inhabitants of my Gemeinde (which is one of the richest of Zurich...), which explains my slight disgust of the people living here (and the quotation marks).
...can't move, because I'd have to pay way more rent anywhere else

(and I happen to like the little lake thing very near to me)

Re: Greeting from Zurich

proof for what I wrote above, I am a poor student with no money and therefore consider 50 Franks a lot for one simple evening...
But it's true, even for that you don't get very much.

Re: Greeting from Zurich

You can always spend more time looking at the moon, or invest the 50CHF on a bottle of Thunderbird ?

Re: Greeting from Zurich

cheers guys thanks for the welcome..

Footie sounds good. this sunday is going to be difficult but from next will be superb.

As for what I am looking for:

Bars where you can meet locals...

Bars where it is reasonabley priced...

Nice areas away from the old town and centre - nice but touristy...

Thanks
