Another newbie Zürich/Zug

Hi Guys,

I've been in Switzerland several years, only joining the forum now. Originally from San Francisco, happily divorced and living in Zürich (Kreis 4). I'm interested in meeting some new people to expand the circle of friends.

Trained as PT, switched to IT upon arrival in CH, currently working on my master's in Environmental Management/Sustainability. Recently started a new gig in Zug. (Any lunchtime Fitnesspark rats out there?)

Regularly commute by bike from Zug to Zürich city via Sihltal trails, hit me up if anyone would like to join.

Happy to join the forum, seems like a top-notch crowd.

Cheers,
Ian

Hello and welcome to the Forum. Keep an eye on the calendar for social / concert / commercial events as there's always a crowd doing something, somewhere.

Then there's the football... (er, soccer)

Re: Another newbie Zürich/Zug

Do you do Bikram? I would consider moving to Zurich exclusively to be close to a studio! Hmmm...now about making a living...
You had some good advice for the CA traveler who wants to cover the Western Half of the Northern Hemisphere and hit 2 of the most underwhelming cities stateside. Wow.
Where specifically are you from in CA? I was raised in No Cal (Healdsburg/Sebastopol) but haven't lived there in a while.
Cheers
Zoa

Re: Another newbie Zürich/Zug

Thanks, guys. The name, yes, Hunter's gone so I thought it's free...

From the City (SF), raised in a single-mom renting household, so we bounced to the North Bay (San Rafael) as well. I find CH similar to Norcal in topography, lakes instead of ocean, etc. I miss the big sky country, though.

Oddly enough, there's a bikram studio on my street, but I've never checked it out. Another one on the list...

Re: Another newbie Zürich/Zug

Interesting comment about Big Sky. I guess I never noticed - as it's just always been that way. Kind of taken for granted a titch I suppose.
How long have you been in Europe? I assume you moved for work/school?
Bikram's not for everyone, but I find it amazing. Rookies need to commit to at least 3 classes before deciding if it's for them or not. The first few classes are pretty brutal. But it totally transforms your body, in addition to all the other benefits of yoga. I'm toying with the idea of becoming an instructor....exciting. Let me know how it goes if you try it out.
Cheers

Re: Another newbie Zürich/Zug

Well, um, I'd rather not get too personal on the forum, but...
I actually moved here several years ago for (what seemed like) love, which didn't work out as planned. Since W. took my country hostage, I stayed here. As compensation for my efforts I've been blessed with amazing opportunities that afford me great freedom.

Yeah, a friend tried bikram, then puked right after class so I wasn't too enticed by the prospect. I did yoga in 40 deg heat in Thailand, that was enough. One of the things I loved about the bay area and now enjoy in Switzerland is the moderate climate is great for biking or anything outdoors.

I've seen ads for a yoga instructor certification center in the city of Zürich, if that's what you're after. Forgot the link but google can help with that.

cheers,
doc
