this is a great site! We (boy&girl, age 29) moved from Norway to Bern two weeks ago, and now we find ourselves sitting at home on a Saturday evening... This is not good! Hopefully, some of you nice guys will get in touch so we can go out for a beer or two and make some new friends! In the meantime, we'll open a bottle of wine and wait for replies...

I think my boyfriend and I will probably be in a similar situation in a couple of weeks when we move down to Berne from Copenhagen (not danish but have lived here a few years). We would definitely be up for going out to sample the 'really cheap' local beer.

It seems there are quite a few events organised in Berne through this forum -- keep an eye out!

Since I assume you have finished that bottle now, you may wish the write a bit about yourselves so we can get to know you and decide if we want to drink with you.

Two days, two replies! This is promising Yesterday we managed to entertain ourselves and went hiking in the Berner Oberland. Beautiful. We also finally managed to figure out the strange sounds the swiss make after they say "grüsse." No idea how they are able to pronunce "miteinander" the way they do... We really look forward to learning the language. Luckily, we have only met really nice people so far, who immediately switch to high German when they hear our struggle.

So.. what else... if we promise not to drown you in incredibly stupid IT-related questions, is there a chance that you'll drink with us then..?

am on extended duty with in-laws right now, returning Wednesday and will be organising a beer session for Friday evening ... have a look in social events shortly ....

Welcome to EF!I'm in Bern a little over 2 weeks myself.You came to the right place if you're into wine.T'is popular here. The quality of beer here for the prices isn't fantastic I would say but then I like the "Dunkel" sort which there's not much of.Then again, it's probably a bargain compared to Norway.Well, there's always coop for cheap cans Why'd you leave Norway?Just out of interest..Good luck with learning Bärndütsch, by the way..it's tough!

Hope to meet you all Friday, great initiative from the veterans. If feels good to have some social event coming up... As most of you other guys, we moved to Bern to work. My new collegues are really nice, but noone seems to live less than one hour drive from work, so they're not very flexible in the evenings. I am really impressed by the locals' willingness to spend hours on public transportation every day. To the wannabe scandinavians relocating from Copenhagen next week, we can highly recommend the Breitenrain area, it's close to the city centre, yet very nice and quiet. Looking forward to Friday!
