To Switzerland from England via India

Hi Everyone,

I just discovered this forum as I searched around for information that might help in my move to Switzerland and I'm glad I found it before I arrive. I'm moving to Zug in August after living in South India for almost three years but originally I'm from Co. Durham in the North of England.

I loved India but was missing my skis so I managed to get a job teaching in Zug. I'm sure the contrast is going to be quite staggering but I did laugh when I was warned about the bureaucracy and needing two photos for my residency papers - I needed about 9 for my Indian residency! Ok well that's my brief introduction; I'm looking forward to meeting lots of new friends.

Hi, I'm from Crook (that's where I am at the moment) and being a small world I'd just planned a trip to Stanope on Sunday to walk the dog! My mum taught at Wolsingham. What you doing in Zurich and how are you getting there? Are you going for long?

Re: To Switzerland from England via India

I've been offered a permanent job as a managing consultant for a SAP consultancy (IT) based in Kloten just north of Zurich. I'm married with 2 kids so I will move to Zurich first to look for flats, schools, etc.

There's some good schools in Zurich (I will be working in small international school in Zug). A good place to start looking for schools is www.ibo.org if you want an international education for your kids. Have you investigated moving your belongings to Zurich yet? I'm just in the process of phoning around for quotes and wondered if you'd found a local company.

Re: To Switzerland from England via India

My son is 5 and my daughter is 3 so my son will be attending kindergarten and we are considering a part-time place in a private nursery for our daughter. We are quite keen for our kids to integrate as quickly as possible. I found that Pickfords are the best deal - we only need a half load (we are renting out our house in Stanhope on a furnished basis so we don't need to take much) and this will cost £930.

We moved to Switzerland two and a half years ago. For the first year we lived in Kloten and now we live in Bassersdorf about 10 mins from Kloten. It,s a great area to live in but my wife is Swiss so my children go to a Swiss school. Our requirements were probably different to yours.
