New adventure in Basel

Hello,

I arrived in Therwil about 5 weeks ago, right in the middle of the heatwave (not great for lugging around/unpacking endless boxes!), and am loving it so far.

We moved from England to Switzerland because my husband accepted a job at Novartis (the same as every other English speaking person I've met here so far!).

We have 3 boys (9, 5 and 1) and am feeling a bit apprehensive this weekend as the older two start at the local school/KG on Monday...

Anyway, so far I've learnt LOADS from this forum and am sure I'll learn plenty more! Any information on child-friendly activities around Therwil would be greatfully received.

Re: New adventure in Basel

Hi Mellie!

Therwil is absolutly gorgeous to live. We go there quite often by bike for a good ride.

If you fancy a cup of tea or coffee let me know, My daughter (22 months) and I could meet you and your youngest!

Welcome to Basel and to the forum!

Re: New adventure in Basel

Hi,

We moved to Switzerland 4 months ago with my husband's job (Syngenta), and we have settled in Oberwil. We have 2 sons aged 9 and 4 (5 in November). My eldest started at local school 3 days after arriving here. To say i was nervous, scared etc for him was an understatement, but his school have been brilliant. They organised all his German lessons and kept in regular contact with me to let me know how he was getting on. He can now hold a decent conversation in German and he's told me he can't imagine living any where else now!
My youngest starts kindergarten on Monday and he's really looking forward to it. Again I'm apprehensive but deep down I know he'll be fine.

I haven't really got much information in child friendly activities. We have spent most of the summer at the outdoor pool in Bottmingen, Basel zoo or Grun 80 park.
Enjoy Switzerland. It really is a great place to live.

Re: New adventure in Basel

Welcome to the Forum.

Hope you get nicely settled soon and that the boys find their feet at school quickly. It's often hard for children for a bit - the language and different priorities in school-work too, but give them the support they need and a bit of time to sort themselves out.
