I bought it this past weekend but just realized that I wouldn't be able to go on the booked dates due to some unexpected work commitments coming up

You can change the dates before departure, unless it's a Smart fare ticket... if so you better sell it at a lower price as in Milan is the week of Ferragosto (15th) and everything is closed so it's difficult to do turism...
