If you have a spare standing fan, you might try that for a few nights. I point it away from us when it's too cold for a fan, but the noise is nice for me.

Re: Looking for sleep machine

Thanks all - good suggestions for others who may have a problem.
I AM THE PROBLEM - @ mimi1981: I am the sleeping machine that snores & drives my light-sleeping husband crazy. He uses ear-plugs & (@anowheels) we have the fan on every night. I finally got a sleep machine from an expat & it is fantastic. @ Midfield General: if I used a humidifier I might wake up with the frizziest hair you've ever seen! lol

The person who needs it is my friend who has a snoring husband; & a baby who wakes too soon when there is a little noise in the apt. I am suggesting it for her but because I got it from an expat, I wasn't sure where she could find one outside of our group.
@alanshearer: I used the radio on a classical station for my own children years ago (that always puts me to sleep! haha now you know how 'classy' I am)

I will forward on the amazon website to my friend. Many thanks!!!

Re: Looking for sleep machine

sleep apnia, snoring etc., can be allivated by using an air purification system focusing a stream of pure, particle free, polution free air through a Hepa / Carbon Filter directly at the sleeper. A machine that accomplishes that end that is world reknowned is available. It is unique but I am not a salesman, so I do not mention names. It has cured my problems

After multiple consultations and options all suggesting surgery for my chronic snoring I found a guy in Meilen 8706 who is a specialist in snoring, he recommended and fitted a mouth guard for sleeping, stopped most of my snoring, it is a bit uncomfortable at the start and occasionally falls out but that is a small price to pay compared to divorce or tired kids!! Can not for the life of me remember his name but I think this is him http://tel.search.ch/meilen/dorfstra...tin-scherler-2

Re: Looking for sleep machine

The only real help is a CPAP or a continues positive air pressure device, I used to be a world class snorer, to the point of getting hallucinations during daytime and I could no longer drive a car without falling asleep at the wheel, even fell asleep on the bike once, since using the device this has stopped from the first day on.

Re: Looking for sleep machine

So do I. Sleep machine would save my marriage. It is 1:59 and I should be going to bed but he is snoring so loud the walls shake.
I tried a night cup to help me sleep but I would have to think of bedtime bottle

Re: Looking for sleep machine

When we lived in the US, we slept with a sleep machine and loved it to help cancel out background noise. I left it behind when we moved here. Not long after, I was telling my son that we needed to find one here to replace it. He showed me his ipod where he had either downloaded or uploaded the sounds you find in a sleep machine like the ocean waves, etc. He had it hooked up to a small, portable speaker that he purchased for around 20 chf at one of the local shops. I ended up ordering a cd from amazon, but perhaps you can find on itunes.

There are plenty of iPhone/android apps that make soothing sounds. Probably better than a cd because you can adjust many parameters until you find something you like. Or for fun, the inception app which takes sounds around you and remixes them in an interesting way.

Re: Looking for sleep machine

If you snore, you are not only keeping your better half awake, you are also not getting the full benefit of a good nights sleep.

I would suggest you look at the Velumount before investing in a machine or other "gimmick".

My wife was having problems sleeping due to my snoring. My doctor suggested the Velumount system. I was skeptical, but willing to give it a try before looking into more drastic measures (surgery, etc.). It took a couple of weeks to get used to it, but now (about 3 years later), I can't sleep without it.

It keeps your throat open so that you don't snore. In my case, it has also helped me stay more healthy - since I starting using it, I have suffered a lot less colds and other respiratory problems. I don't know if this is due to a better air circulation in my throat or just that I'm getting a better nights sleep, but I certainly appreciate not being sick very much!

The company was started in Switzerland, but they have an English-language website (focused on Australia, of all places):
http://www.velumount.ch/de (German)
http://www.velumount.com.au/en (English)

Re: Looking for sleep machine

I have a Marsona white noise machine and absolutely LOVE it.

http://www.amazon.com/Marsona-TSCI-3.../dp/B000X2FSA2

What's really nice about it is that the sounds don't loop, so there is no pattern for your mind to focus in on. (This was a problem I had with my other noise machine).

It's also a handy-dandy travel size (with adjustable volume), comes with international adapters and can be used with the voltage here.
