ABC Flash Cards

My son has some learning difficulties and it has been identified he is more of a visual learner. One suggestion is to use textured letter cards so he can see and feel the shape of letters, similar to what is used in Montesesori schools. Does anyone have a set for sale or give away? Thanks Rob

don't have any but very easy to make your own-and maybe he'll be extra into them if he helps out?!

take index cards and put white school glue in the shape of the letter. using sand, glitter, etc (any kind of different interesting textures, colors) add to the glue and shake off excess when dry.

i know when my son was small he was more excited about using items he made, and i think it won't be so easy (or cheap) to find them.

if you need any other info or help on activities to get him motivated to read,
i'm happy to help, just pm.
good luck!

Re: ABC Flash Cards

In Montessori they are called 'Sandpaper letters' - do you need German or English (I know the letters are the same, but there are a couple of different ones).

I may be able to get you a complete set of them - real sandpaper letters from a Montessori school...it would be pick up in Adliswil/Zurich...

I also have a book which has letters that you stick in to a book, that are made from felt. The book was designed/written by a Montessori teacher/colleague/friend of mine, and I think I have a new unused one in my office at work.

I can loan you the sandpaper letters, and sell you the book for 20chf. It has one double-page per letter where you stick the shape in, then practice making the sound of the letter, and there's a space to draw things that begin with that letter yourself - but it's in english...

Send me a PM if you're interested...

also, you can use small glass circles (in colors too) to put over letters, blends, words, etc. to help him focus on what he is reading...
