Wanted: Storage/moving boxes in Basel

My husband and I are cleaning up and organizing stuff over the next few weeks, and we're looking for some storage or moving boxes. If you have any you're looking to get rid of, please let me know.

If you know where to find them inexpensively, that would be great too. I bought some recently at IKEA, but they worked out to about 4 CHF a box!

Thanks

Last time I checked, they wanted 4.95 CHF for two boxes.

Ah, yes, perhaps you're right. Still, a bit steep for what we need. Thanks

When we moved we used Banana boxes free from Coop, or Migros

Hi We are just emptying our goods from Pickfords boxes, we have quite a few as you can imagine. Our flat is in Binningen if you want to collect as many as you like of different sizes plus lots of paper as they wrapped it all for us.

Hi Evilshell,

You can get cheap good sized strong boxes (we filled ours till I could no longer lift them ) at your local salvation Army shop (Hells Weiss? I think in German do not quote me though). We have recently moved and we got our flat pack boxes from here.

They have differnent sizes for bewteen 2CHF and 5CHF, but the best bit is that when you have done with them, as long as they are still usable you get ALL your money back

Re: Wanted: Storage/moving boxes in Basel

Time to revive this thread, as I'm starting to pack up our remaining stuff to move in a few months.

Before I go and spend cash on the Salvation Army boxes, would anyone happen to have boxes that they want to get rid of in the Basel area?

You probably mean the Heilsarmee. Here's their website.

Re: Wanted: Storage/moving boxes in Basel

Resurrecting this post as now I'm starting to pack for the rest of our move. If anyone in Basel has boxes they'd like to get rid of, please let me know.

Tried to go to the Salvation Army at Dreispitz today and wasn't able to find parking anywhere in the garage or nearby, so I've more or less given up on that one.

Re: Wanted: Storage/moving boxes in Basel

I don't know how motivated you are, but I am unpacking a 40 ft. container on Wednesday and Thursday this week in Lausanne and you are welcome to all of the boxes, packing materials, etc. There will also be custom wooden crates for artwork and glass table tops. There's probably between 50 and 75 boxes/crates, etc. if you want them.

Wow, thank you. I'd be very interested...but...at 200km from Basel, I think I'll have to pass.

If you don't want them do you think I should start a new thread about them? I hate to see that free packing material go to waste! The moving company is just going to take it all away.

Oh, I definitely would! Better to pass them on than to let the company take them. As I'm sure you know (and as shown above), moving boxes are terribly expensive here!

Re: Wanted: Storage/moving boxes in Basel

An update:

I just came back from buying the 2 CHF boxes at the Salvation Army. They seem to be really good value for money, however, one caveat - if your car is small, you'll have trouble transporting them! They were almost too big for my VW Polo. They have all kinds of sticky-out flaps which make them a bit difficult to squeeze in, but I managed it. (couldn't see out my rear view mirror, but the boxes were in!).

Still on the outlook for boxes from now till the end of the year, so if you've got any, please PM me.
