Ice Skating Lessons

Hi,

I have vacation in the first week in the new year and was looking for someone to give ice-skating lessons to me and my 6 year old. We can both stand on the ice without falling off, but need someone who can add more grace to our basic skills.

Thanks,
kayo.

Re: Ice Staking Lessons

I wish I was a little closer! It would have been a pleasure to help you and your son learn to skate, and would make for a nice afternoon. Do you know how to rollerblade (the motion is very similar)? Hope you find someone (and don't be afraid to fall a little, it's normal.)

Re: Ice Skating Lessons

Hi Kayo,

Some of my friends go to the Dolder Ice rink every Tuesday and are happy to help beginners.

They organise thru meetup.com and next Tuesday's event is listed here:

http://www.meetup.com/Zurich-Hike-Ou...ents/39625512/

(At the moment there is only one person listed to go, but that will pick up - last week i think it was about 14 ppl).

Kash.

Boy or girl? I know it sounds so sexist - and yet. The skates and skating style is very different depending on whether you use hockey skates (no break teeth at the front) or figure skates (with break 'teeth' at front of blade).

Just to clarify on this comment.

Boy or Girl is irrelevant, but the idea is good.

Probably best put, does your child want to learn agressive, hockey-style skating, or graceful, figure-style staking. Both are very interesting and skill full.

Kinda picture it as: would your child want to break dance, or salsa dance?

Re: Ice Skating Lessons

Touché. I used to be a very keen skater, and formed one of the first girls hockey team in CH, and had 2 pairs of skates,, 1 for hockey, 1 for 'normal' skating and figures.

Very different skills and technique involved.

Kash.
I would also recommend the Dolder.
Our Daughter also went there, she was 6 at the time, she had 2 private lessons which were relatively inexpensive.
It was all she needed.
The teacher was really good quality.

Re: Ice Skating Lessons

Thanks to everyone for their tips and comments.

The Meetup at Dolder sounds good, and I will try it during the holiday weeks if they still meet during that time. It wont work during school weeks as a 7.30 start time is too late for a 6 yr old who has school the next day.

And its a 6 yr old girl (plus me) who needs to learn and I think i'd prefer she not learn the aggressive style of skating at this age.

Cheers,
Kayo

Hi AFC,

I take it that they have this at all times through the season. Do you have a website or a contact number where I can get more details?

Thanks,
Kayo

They gave us direct numbers to call for a teacher and we arranged the time directly with them, they nearly all speak good English.
