Simultaneous translation for talk required. English to French (Feb. 2012)

In February, Noel Kingsbury will give a conference on 'New Ways with Perennials' to the Amis Suisses des Plantes Vivaces and anyone else who is interested. The big problem is that he only speaks english and we need a simultaneous translator to translate into french.

This person is proving hard to find.

Do you have any ideas?

I'm not sure whether this place is better than Language Forum or not but at any rate you need a title which will give more info than yours. If this doesn't produce any results, PM me and I'll move it back.

Paging Odile!

I see your point about the phone number, but if I leave it in, others will follow suit.

The OP can PM or email Posko if he wants to get in touch, or you could PM the OP with the number if you like.

By this time the OP has probably seen your post and made a note of the number anyway.

As a professional in the field, may I gently point out that you don't need a translator at all, but an interpreter?

Depending on your budget, I might be able to help if you want to PM me with the date and actual location

I just wanted to point out that it is not enough to speak two languages fluently to do a good job as a simultaneous interpreter. It really takes talent and special skills, which are developed in years and years of practice. It is a high stress occupation.
I thought for a short while of pursuing this career, but I have no personal skills to sustain this kind of stress.

Indeed, if you really are after simultaneous interpreting, not consecutive, then you absolutely need an experienced professional IMO

Thanks, you are right, maybe I was vague in my post, I know she studied that and is why I recommended her.

Re: Simultaneous translation for talk required. English to French (Feb. 2012)

Hi, I am professional simultaneous translator (EN-GE-FR-RU). I have interpreted many conferences. If you give me more details, especially on the dates and the exact topic, I will be able to provide a quotation. However, February is very full usually, so it really depends on the date of the conference.
rgds,
Romi

Re: Simultaneous translation for talk required. English to French (Feb. 2012)

I do appreciate that I need a professional

The conference is on Saturday 18th February at 2pm at Grangeneuve school in Fribourg.

The subject is New Ways with Perennials.

The lecturer: Noel Kingsbury - if you like gardening, read his blog - but only if you have some time to spare.

The audience will be gardeners of all levels including a large percentage of students/apprentices.

In reply to eng_ch, I would PM him if I knew what PM meant!

PM = Private Message. Click on eng_ch name on his/her post and a dropdown menu will appear with how you can contact him/her. If they have enabled private messaging, then this option will be shown.

See this post from Longbyt, one of the forum Moderators, which explains how to do this amongst other things.
