culture/urban studies/contemporary art jobs??

Are there any expats working in the culture/urban studies/contemporary art fields in Switzerland? I just moved to Basel because my boyfriend is an architect here and I was wondering how difficult it is to find a position in these fields.

I recently completed an American Fulbright scholarship in E. Asia and would like to try looking for a job here in the above fields. Are there any good job search engines for cultural studies/humanities/social sciences/research/curatorial/editorial positions??

Thank you ~!

hi other, sounds fascinating - I hope you'll post a full introduction in the EF intro section.

I'm not sure about search engines, but here are two museums you might try:

My neighbor, an anthropologist, does tours here:

You might try contacting the Univ of Basel and/or Zurich's faculties for anthropology and cultural studies to see to see if they either know of anything or run a job-services board. What about academic jobs?

I don't know much about the market for contemporary art jobs, except to say that there are tons of foundations, galleries, endowments, auction houses etc. in Switzerland, so there must be a market for art historians and curators.

Re: culture/urban studies/contemporary art jobs??

Hi "otherplaces"

I am also on the job market and have a background in the social sciences/culture/social anthropology.

Here are some potentially useful sites:

http://www.kampagnenforum.ch/jobs.html

http://www.cinfo.ch/

http://www.unibas.ch/index.cfm?5EB03...2B6EB7D0983F09

Good luck with the job hunt. It is very challenging, even for people who have an excellent education. Best chance might be to start volunteering at an organization in your field.

I was just perusing around and I saw this job. Looks like it may be a good fit for you. Looks like you only have to apply pretty quickly. Good Luck.

Re: culture/urban studies/contemporary art jobs??

Dear Sundae, Bartholomew, and Wife of a Swiss,

Thank you for the helpful links last year. Unfortunately I didn't find much and so I've been traveling back and forth to NY to work at a contemporary art museum there. I really appreciate your thoughtfulness and help though. Sundae, did you end up finding a position in cultural anthropology in Switzerland?? Would be great to hear if you found something and are enjoying it!
