Why am I asking this?

So today, went and talked to the lady at Post Finance about setting up a bunch of accounts. On her screen, picture of her two year son popped up. We got chatting and she told me about the difficulty her husband has had finding a job in his area of expertise since he came over two years ago. He has had back to back temp jobs in catering and so on, just not his thing.

She is ever so nice (swiss if it matters) and was explaining it was difficult because he doesn't work between contracts and she has to do 100%. In fact i'd put her in one of those ultra nice categories, as she couldnt be friendlier from the get go.

So I said I know this place where lots of expats exchange knowledge and ideas and said I would see if there was anything.

That's it really. Would be great to be able to help out. So EF'ers, anyone got any leads?

Does he have an education in any of the above?

Yes, he is a car mechanic by trade.

So it's an education that he can use here? Like his certification is recognized here?

I don't know, but would assume probably not as it is not an EC country that he gained it in. I can certainly find out.

Do you have a potential lead?

If he has truck license he should apply with Coop 'Lieferdienst Abteilung' ???
I think that's what it's called.

Also removal companies. My wife works in the office for Kuoni Transport Zürich. He should ring her up, make an appointment and take his resumè in. As well as all the other removalist companies. They get paid pretty good for what they do and often get tips as well. Umzugs Termin is coming up (March/April) this is when most people move.

Sieber transport also. They are responsible for delivering furniture for Ikea. They just require a normal car license as well as trailer. (anhänger)

I know some mechanics, and while that might not immediately equate to a job, they might know where to best start asking around, or know some one. But most of those guys are in the Kloten area.

I sent the lady an email this morning with the responses so far. Fair to say she is quite happy:

As an update, he has his B driving licence but not any mechanics documents as they don't really have them over there.
