| | | Looking for an English speaking babysitter in Lausanne (part time)
EDIT: This used to be a thread advertising a babysitting job. The job is no longer available (as of March 2007), and it was not a job I was offering anyway: it was a job looking after the children of some friends (I don't have children myself).
I have taken the step of deleting this post due to the excessive number of PMs I was receiving from people hoping I could help them find work here. If you are looking for babysitting work in Lausanne, do not contact me, as I cannot help you.
Thanks for your understanding,
Heather

| | | Re: Looking for an English speaking babysitter in Lausanne (part time) Hi Heather,
I live in Biel/Bienne and am looking for a job here in CH that is English speaking. A little about myself: I am 29 years old and American. I grew up in NYC. I have a B.A. in psychology and Spanish. I also speak Spanish and German on intermediate levels. I enjoy working with children and would be able to provide references. Working Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays is fine but I do live in Biel and would ask the parents to pay for my travel expenses. I am planning to do research part-time in psychology at the University of Bern so this job could be a perfect fit. Professionally I'm pursuing a career in child and adolescent psychology. So that's my situation in a nut shell. All the best, Sarah |

given your skillset and education sarah, why are you looking to be a babysitter... wouldnt a paid research post eg at bern uni be a much better fit?

A paid research position is definitely my first choice. I'm going to contact professors at Bern again on Monday. But in case there aren't any paid positions open I'll take just about anything. I'm still hoping to do research at Bern either way.. paid or volunteer for the experience. But in the meantime I'm just trying to put my feelers out there...

I appreciate that. It just gets daunting sometimes when I feel like a fish out of water here in CH ... with not having a good command of high German or the dialect yet and being in a different culture, with different ways of doing things here, different systems, etc. NYC with 8 million people...no problem..but here ... well, it just takes time I guess. But thanks for the thoughts!

He is a great tour guide and it's been an easy love affair with the country itself... we've gone on so many great bike rides and hikes and I've been lucky to meet several very nice and fun people here but it's been hard trying to navigate the university system here... they wouldn't accept my 5-year B.A. degree from the States (I switched majors and schools), ...and just learning German has been really tough at times... adjectiv endungen, etc.!! akkusativ, dativ, genetiv!! and my fiance works a lot but it's coming along and been great overall. Just need a job though to help balance things out and for personal satisfaction!!

Hello Heather and family,
My name is Samantha I am 37 years old. I moved to Fribourg to live with my partner who is Swiss. We thought that after five years of commuting one of us needed to relocate. It was me. All this happened in September I have had eight weeks of French courses. If you are having problems finding some one special to take care of your two girls. I may be able to help, if you are still without help for March and April I would be able an happy to help. It may not be ideal but it may allow you some extra time to find the best person. It would be much better for the girls if you are able to find a long term person straight away it would give them a little more time to adjust. But it is always good to have a contingency plan. Good luck and I hope you manage to find the rite person sooner rather than later.

you would seriously travel from Como to Lausanne to babysit?
I don't think so. You're either slightly mad or have no grasp of what lies between Como and Lausanne |

Hi Heather,
I will be moving to the Geneva/Lausanne area in August while my husband starts school at HEI and am hoping to find a job. I am a 23 year old American. I grew up in CA and have a Master's degree in Art History. I speak German at an intermediate level and rudimentary French. I have some experience babysitting for family members and friend's children. I will be totally flexible. I know that you are looking for someone to start sooner, but if you don't find anyone then I will be available in the fall.
thanks,
Courtney

Hello,
My name is Cheryl O'Bryan and I am 25 years old. I just moved to Lausanne the 20th of September. I have yet to find work here in Lausanne so if anyone has any ideas or direction for me that would be great! I graduated from Hawaii Pacific University with a BA in Justice Administration (criminal justice). I am very flexible to work hours and open to pay!
Heather, if you still need someone to babysit I would love that opportunity!
Thanks again,

Hello everyone,
I am a 18 y.o girl from Mongolia. I've been studying in International Schools since my 5th grade in Russian speaking countries. Therefor, I know English and Russian. Right now I'm a first year student in Geneva. I'm looking for a part time babysitting job. If the time's are flexible that would be great but I'm available Monday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 2pm until 6pm. I would like to pick your kids from the school bus, play with them, feed them and look after when they're doing homework. Or when you want to enjoy a night out but don't have anyone to take care of your kid/s for couple of hours at night I would love to do that.
I live in Plainpalais area and it would be great if someone invite me for a babysitter.
Thank you in advance and if you want to contact me please refer to e_angar@yahoo.com | |
