looking for someone with a van (express, kangoo.....) or knows someone doing regular deliveries or travel to Locarno

I am getting 5 large suitcases transported by ship from miami to Zurich
(will not fit in a car- i mean laaarge suitcases) : 600 lbs more or less

arrival planed for december 22nd.

will have to pick them up at warehouse near Zurich airport and deliver them at Locarno. (I would be there as well arriving from germany to do the custom stuff )

could rent a van too, but i am exploring different possibilities if someone does regularly drive to Locarno from Zurich.

please give me a quote if someone is interested.

How are your goods really coming into Switzerland ? The ship will not be docking in Zurich

Ours were air-freighted into Zurich, or otherwise they would have come via road from Frankfurt...

Surely your freight company can just organise the transfers for you ?
It's likely to be cheaper to do this from the USA end than rely on a second courier to do your transfer...and risk losing your goods as well...the less the goods are handled locally, the better...our local 'delivery' guys were pretty basic...(read that as 'disorganised' 'rough handling' 'inefficient')...

i asked to have them delivered directly in locarno . but they can't. need to go through customs and all the usual stuff before.

not that a few used clothes and a few computer cables could represent a high risk for the swiss population but...the law is the law!

Ok, sounds like they are doing the unpacking and customs clearance in Zurich - haven't they just quoted you on a courier ?

Really, I would personally recommend making the effort and coming to Zurich to inspect and pick them up, because if you rely on a third person you risk losing any possibility of claiming insurance...on pickup from Zurich you will be able to inspect (I suggest you do, especially if anything is breakable, actually open up the suitcases and make sure everything is there before you walk away)...

We learnt the hard way, our couriers broke my sewing machine...and on our insurance basically you have to note and claim the damage immediately.

Also, your courier company will want you to sign to say you have received the goods and they are acceptable...so using a third party this won't be possible...

just used sea freight because 600lb from miami to Zurich was only $450
(i was even allowed : 35 cu ft for that price since they work on volume rather than weight)

Sounds good. We moved from Australia - 7.5 cubic metres, air freight...$10,000 ... air freight was only 25% more expensive than sea-freight, and the sea-freight they couldn't even give us a date of when it might arrive (minimum 3 months, maximum ???) - we moved all our 'worldly possessions' for a family of 5...

well I think you'd best rent a van. I think a private person with a van would easely charge you chf .5 per km (@500km) plus chf 30 an hour (@more than 6 hours)

Why don't you check sending them by train? You could check them in at the the railway station at the airport and pick them up in Locarno? I am not sure of it isn't cheaper to ship them if you are also travelling by train. I agree with the poster that said you should probably inspect the suitcases at their point of arrival. If they are being shipped by freight they will have been even less well looked after than checked baggage (and that is saying something....).
