Hello everyone,

I just lost my job yesterday and I am very scared on what my next steps may be. I was an au pair for a horrible lady in Basel who treated me terribly and paid me nothing. So, now I am so blessed and fortunate to be staying with a friend for the time being, but need to find a new job, any type of job ASAP. I have a BA degree in Tourism, but 2 years of experience in education and 3 years of experience in marketing. Please PM me if you know or have heard of anything that may help my in this bind. I am very willing to take on any part time work as well.

That's really tough. I can help you with some links to information. Try here for general job/unemployment links, here for links about child care and here for salary info.
There's also the expat expo this Sunday at the Basel Messe, which could be a good way to get talking to people.

thank you all for your help and advice! i will look into those links and hope to find something there. as far as the au pair job with the lady, i was on the phone with the U.S Embassy all day yesterday to see what my options are. they told me it can get quite messy (even with a written contract). well now, not having much at all to live off, I really cant execute legal matters in this. i soon have to make decision to either fly back home or make the life i wanted for myself here and find something quickly. again, if any of you know of anyone who is urgently hiring for any position, please let me know. THANK YOU SO MUCH!

BTW, when we come to Basel in July, we shall also be looking for a regular house/dog sitter for when we travel about at weekends.

Hey Lilly, although I'm not in the same line of work, my best recommendation would be to network at the moment. If you're a friend of a friend it really gives the edge in getting hired at the moment.

Obviously here's a good place to start, but be sure to ask ALL your friends if they know anyone who might be looking for someone like you...
