| | | Salary survey/index/survey whatever. Hi gang . how´s it hanging Ok, here’s the deal. A week ago, my pc crashed and my Internet Explorer™ favourites went to heaven together with the crash. I had a favourites (.ch) webpage where I could sorta cross-check various industries and salaries by cities. Acknowledging that I cannot find the webpage after a week, I am humbly turning to you all for assistance. Please feel free to post whatever site you have knowledge on, which will allow me to ensure that I wont get ripped off while accepting a job. Thank you all. |

I think I finally found it http://www.salaryexpert.com
Please compare your salary and tell me if they are off or not.
(I wont need the nitty-gritty on your personal income, just if you agree with the numbers presented by the page)

It looks far overrated to me. Most (if not all) Software Engineers I know, don't get that much. But then most software engineers I know don't work for banks or insurance companies... | Quote: | | | | The Software Engineer working in Zurich now earns an average annual salary of 158,902. Half of those in this position would earn between 125,851 and 206,350 (the 17th and 67th percentiles). These numbers are derived from real, area specific, survey data.
(Note: These are conservative government estimates. For competitive salary survey data based on consensus analyses of thousands of private and public salary surveys, see ERI's Salary Assessor software. This salary software covers Europe, Canada, and the United States.) | | | | | |

mmm...I found this site quite interesting and agree with Nanda, it seems quite overrated to me too. I had a crisis a few months back not knowing whether I was being paid enough, I haven't changed jobs, cos' it's not that easy, although I will be changing departments so do you guys think it's worth renegotiating my salary at this stage? |

It sounds high to me. From my limited knowledge of banking software engineers, I would put the average at about 128k.

And I'm not even in the IT domain...legal infact, so I compared the salaries of a paralegal to that of a lawyer and there wasn't much difference, which isn't normal. For you non-legal persons out there, lawyers generally get paid heaps more than paralegals...

Hi,
I have a reasonable overview of what the software engineers are getting in the company in which I work. We are alos considered to be quite high payers. I can assure you that for us, the tool is way over-estimating. I would put our average much mch closer to the lower end than the upper end, and certainy not above 130k. Indeed, the IT managers who run teams of engineers do not earn as much as the upper band suggested.
I expect the survey has included contractors, of which there is a lot in Switzeralnd. This will greatly skew the data in my humble opinion.

The site says that an 'administrative assistant' pulls 90k average for Zurich. Banking or not, that sounds way too high to me. I'd venture a guess that they messed up a currency conversion somewhere. Bartender average? 110k. Bricklayer? 103k Fastfood cook? 91k Me thinks the ‘salary expert’ should be averaging SFr0. |

Syndikat.ch, an online "Union" for IT people has some information and also a salary survey. You can view and filter the results of that survey.
Unfortunately it's only available in german. http://syndikat.ch/lohnchecker/ |

Does anyone know what a CELTA English Teacher would earn on average in Zurich? I've searched the salary databases but can't seem to find anything.

Language might be an issue though - not sure how much English would be spoken by the kitchen staff though. If you think you have a chance of getting a job - go for it. Jack (on this forum) is quite knowledgable in this field, you could ask him for advice.

Im working on the language thing though. I will be doing a bit of "groundwork" this month when I come over and hope to have a basic grasp of German by early next year (if thats not too ambitious) I have tried learning Swiss German but that confused the hell out of me.
There is a slim chance of getting a transfer with my company (Whitbread) who own Rennaisance and Marriot hotels. Ill just have to wait and see!

Correction offered: actually that salary is pretty spot on for a PA or high level admin assistant, crazy as that sounds, . 100k and up is normal here. you'd be surpised.
labour is very expensive. its not just the monopolies and cartels tat keep prices high here.
AND one can specify they want a woman with correct and friendly appearance' - work out what that is code for... . 100k and up is normal here. you'd be surpised! www.salaire-uss.ch seesm fairly accurate, but is not in English.
the http://www.salaryexpert.com one has a long but actually very limited list of salaries, btu seems in keepign with what I know. the ranges are very wide though....
