Hi all!

In my job searching, I am finding that most jobs are outside of Zurich. I have a Bachelors degree in Aerospace Engineering and would like to find a job in that field within a 1 hour tram ride of ETH. However, because we moved here for my husband to complete his PhD at ETH I was only able to get a little over a year's worth of experince before we left. We are American and both have B permits that allow me to work so having an employer apply for a work permit is not necessary. I am willing to take German classes if needed too. I was hoping someone on here may know a company/person to get in contact with. I would appeciate anything! Thanks.

I think Honeywell was located in Morges, but seems to have moved to Rolle... unfortunately, this is in the Canton of Vaud and over 2 hours train ride from Zurich =(

*edit* try typing "aerospace zurich" or something like this in google... I got a few hits by typing "aerospace vaud" in my search engine when I was looking for the Honeywell office near Morges and saw it was in Rolle instead. Maybe hit and miss but you never know.

Did you check PSI (Paul Scherrer Institut) for available openings? I can't guarantee it will be aerospace specifically, but if you are an engineer, you might find a job pretty easily. It is just like a national lab in the US, and it is about an hour to an hour-fifteen commute from Zurich. It is worth looking into. And good luck... :]

I've looked into Honeywell, PSI, and all the others google has brought up. Thanks anyway. I was more hoping for a smaller company or a name to email within a company. In my experience, that seems to be the best way to get a good chance.

Could you specifiy a bit further which direction within aerospace engineering you would like to work in / are qualified for?

As aerospace engineering is probably one of the broadest engineering studies there is, and the 'general aerospace' will lead you mostly to the bigger broader firms. And that could as well end up that you apply for sitting on a tractor on the airfield pushing aircraft. Which is lot of fun to do for a while, but probably not what you were looking for.

In my last job I worked as a software engineer for a flight simulation company modeling aircraft systems in mainly C++ and testing them in the simulator. This is my main job experience and unfortunately I had to leave for Zurich a little over a year into it. However, my senior design project and internships were in mechanical engineering dealing with turbines (gas and steam) for power generation. But then again I've also had experience working with a team to design a small satellite for an Air Force funded competition. So, I believe I can go into a range of things but would prefer to stay in aviation. But at this point I am not picky... Thanks and I really appreciate any help!

From what I can read you shouldnt have a problem landing employment here. Try ABB or Bombardier, though it might not be aviation...
