| Re: Searching Employment: Fashion & Beauty, Can anyone help?
Always disheartening when you are keen to develop your career in a particular field, and it just isn't happening. Unfortunately, in terms of getting a regular and reliable income, you may be better off going into fashion retail (even if it feels like a step down your ladder), maybe try to find a vintage clothing shop to work in, or a high-end fashion store (if that's what you prefer).
Do loads of research so you know every store going and the style/price of everything everywhere. If you are new to Switzerland, making sure you know what type of stuff the stores here carry, eg Navyboot, Feldplausch, etc., and what all the big fashion mags here are into. Maybe try to get a piece or two published in one of the English expat publications.
While you are doing your 'day job', you can do things like organise 'Swishing' parties, or maybe approach companies to see if they would like you to do some 'wardrobe consulting' for their staff - would be a good corporate team building type of activity.
Know every single second hand clothes store/ independent new clothing style store. Maybe do 'shopping tours' for people, where you take people around undiscovered 'gems', showing them great clothing stores.
I can only think, the type of work you are looking for takes LOTS and LOTS of networking before it takes off in a big way.
Good luck!
