| | | Violin lessons [Kilchberg-ZH]
Hello All,
I am a young professional violinist who has worked all of the major NYC concert venues, as well as toured throughout the USA as a solo violinist. In New York City I ran a successful private studio for over three years and had many satisfied students. There I created my own teaching method that proved to work incredibly well for Adult-Beginner students who thought that they could never learn an instrument!! IT'S NEVER TOO LATE IF YOU HAVE THE DESIRE TO DO IT!
I have a Bachelor of Music degree from the Sunderman Conservatory of Music, and am very eager to begin a small studio in Zürich area. I am classically trained, but have a strong working knowledge of many different styles of playing including country fiddle, bluegrass, general improv, and klesmer.
Currently I would like to teach lessons from my home at the Zürich Stadtgrenze/Kilchberg, which is located directly on the Zürich lake. I am also available to come to YOU, but there will be an extra travel fee.
In addition to adult students, I have also worked with young children, and was a part-time teacher and music coach at the Third Street Music School Settlement in the East Village Manhattan.
Please PM if you are interested!!
Looking forward to hearing from you!
Sarah

I'm a young professional violinist looking to start a private studio here in Zurich. I have been teaching my own method for the past four years with great success - I can teach in English or German. Lessons will be taught from my home, but I can also travel to you if desired. In addition to improving and learning how to play, I can teach note-reading and improv.
Accepting students ranging from beginner to advanced!
Adult students, don't shy away! It's never too late to learn!
for more information, please PM me!
thanks

But here is a funny article about an experiment that JOshua Bell took part in: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...040401721.html
He played for a few hours in a Washington DC subway, the test was to see if anyone stopped to notice the virtuosity.... only one person ended up recognizing him!

HI,
I played the violine when I was a kid, so I would be interested my kids to learn to play the violine. My son is 6 years old and my daughter is 3 years old. Are they old enough to start to play?

Are they old enough to start to play? | | | | | From my experience starting children with lessons at an early age is IDEAL!! 6 years old is a great age to begin lessons because although they might not be able to concentrate for a full half hour lesson, they are introduced to the instrument and will become familiar and pick up very quickly basic techniques and their flexibility will allow them to have good playing posture (this is something that is a problem for people when they begin a stringed instrument at an older age, it feels like a contortion act to try and put the fingers under the neck and play on the fingerboard.)
It is not unheard of for children to begin as early as three -- usually they start with a box instrument and stick bow to get the handle of the position for playing. Once they get the hand of it, there are tons of tiny child sized instruments that they can begin practicing on it.
The most important thing is to make music FUN for the little ones!!
here is a five year old little violinist playing the third movement from the mendelssohn violin concerto! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i05t0nKnwVg&feature=fvw

I would love to take violin lessons (i have a beginner's violin that i bought as a souvenir from a violin factory in romania...) but i probably should continue with tabla lessons instead of picking up a new instrument. But i will mention you to my colleagues as we were just discussing childhood musical instruments at lunch today.
I hope you find a few students soon! All the best |

Correct me if I've gotten the wrong end of the stick, but lessons are for the long run, rather than just learning how to do a certain technique.

I hope this is a yes. I had lessons already and actually enjoy exploring on my own except for the vibrato thing. I feel kinda hopeless, maybe some people just cant do it?

Hello Sarah,
Are you interested in teaching my son? He is six years old and has played for two years under the Suzuki method. I have a large family, so ideally, we'd prefer if you would teach in our home. Can you let me know if there is a time available for 30 minutes? What is the trial period, if any? What is the cost at 30min?

there are actually ways of practicing that teach the vibrato technique.... after a while the vibrato will just come naturally! I've had students who say that they just woke up the next day and could vibrato.... but it only happens over night with practice |

Hi Sarah,
Are you still interested in teaching an adult student? I am currently looking for a private violin tutor, so I will be quite happy if you reply my post.
A little bit about me: I have started playing violin when I was ~5, but I stopped at ~10 as my family moved. Then I picked up a little when I went to the States during Junior year in high school by playing in the school orchestra, but I have not played in an ensemble since. Would you be interested in helping me polishing and improving my violin skills? I am very looking forward to your answer.

Hello, I just wondered if you are still around and if you still take students? I see your original post was from 2010....
