Sick news story of the week

http://www.swissinfo.org/eng/multime...95597&stopit=y

Animal embalmer Christian Schneiter had the novel idea of forming original creatures from different animal parts. He hopes his fantasy creations will revitalise a traditional handicraft that is losing more and more customers. (SF1)

Is this really necessary ?

That is strange. What a curious approach. "Put the crack pipe down..."

Re: Sick news story of the week

What's necessity got to do with it?

I don't know if you ever saw the body worlds exhibition, it freaked a lot of people out and received both acclaim and scorn. Dr von Hagens is a nutter, but better have him doing things like this in the name of medical science or art, otherwise he's most likely be lurking in a alley somewhere trying to chat you up.

I remember finding something like this in nottinghill about 12 years ago... if I remember correctly it was called the Dartmouth Devil... fascinating.

I'm going to stop before any of you think I stuff my cats or I've got a hippocrocapigadog at home.

Re: Sick news story of the week

In the sense of :
"Is it really necessary to move Arsenal's Highbury ground ?" , to which the answer is
"yes , undoubtedly cos it means I can get served in the Cock, and the Hen and Chickens at Highbury Corner."

Its a rhetorical introduction to a question.

PS: There is a shop called taxidermist called "Get Stuffed" on Essex road at the Angel which has some really wild animals in its window. I have never seen it open in 12 years.

Re: Sick news story of the week

what I find quite odd is shops I have seen in Zurich well Oerlikon to be precise having stuffed real animals in the windows, the worst is a travel agents in Oerlikon who created a full safari theme in their window once using lots of stuffed animals, some which I would have thought would be illegal to stuff like Lions? maybe I am gullable and they weren't real but they certainly looked it

Re: Sick news story of the week

For those interested, something like the Body Worlds display used to be on permanent display in Basel. Went to see it a few years ago. Pretty cool stuff, nothing gross or morbid.... just true human art. At lease that is how I saw it

Don't remember where it was on display, just remember Basel and near the Rhein. Couldn't tell you if it is currently on display or not.

Have fun searching for it

Re: Sick news story of the week

Bodyworlds (Körperwelte) had a season in Basel but was not permanent. It moves - spooky, huh?

Anyway, http://www.bodyworlds.com might be a good place to start searching for it.

Even better, watch the fabulous German horror movie "Anatomie", a fictional (I hope!) version of how they turn the humans into model form.

PS Not gonna be able to sleep now - doh!

Re: Sick news story of the week

Ran across a link not too long ago about autopsies. They filmed the autopsy of several different dead people on stage in a television studio with an audience. Creepy.

Then the Doctors go into all these facts about how the people died and show the reasons in great detail. Creepier.

The films are downloadable as high resolution videos. Creepiest.

The best part is... its in English

Yes I watched that, it was horrible, there was lots of controversy about it being shown at the time on channel 4 and it certainly wasn't nice viewing and the doctor was exremely creepy

And how! Maybe that is the creepiest-er part

Just think how those individuals would feel if they knew their face was shown on international TV... then to display the numerous layers of fat and internal organs... kind of goes beyond "privacy rights".

I mean, sure, they donate their body to science and all. I couldn't do that, would you? [looks like a poll coming up here...]

I used to love the Stephen Wright gag "When I die, I'm gonna leave my body to science fiction."

Thinking back to Bodyworlds and the Anatomie movie for a moment, then leaving your body to science fiction actually became possible for a short while. Eeew! :-)

Re: Sick news story of the week

Not for me!

Side note: Some of the body parts that was on display in Basel were from the late 1800s. Just think, back then, when technology was not yet a dream...

People set out on a task to display the nerve tracks in a hand or face, then to display thier work in it's original shape and form.

Or better yet, the capillary system... amazing, especially for that period.

Another morbid thought... Anybody ever see "Faces of Death"?
