| | | Why Have the Swiss Embraced The Mullet as a Sex Symbol?
Since its summer Ive been getting out more often and I cant help but notice that the Mullets are rockin here in CH this summer for some reason.
Is it just me, being in a bucolic back-water, or has the rest if Switzerland picked up where NASCAR has left off?
If so, Why?????
Is this the best that America can export?

Not sure why. But it seems that the fashion here is actually BEHIND the other side of the world. I thought europe was meant to be in front of other countries!!!??

My wife and I have been surprised by number of mullets we have seen here in Switzerland. We have even come up with a name for them - Swullets. Not the most original name, but it does the trick.
Check out this beauty.

I'm still waiting for the rat tail to come back into style. Finally I will be cool again, just like in grade 6! http://www.flickr.com/photos/david_king/55477076/ |

Through detailed scrutiny and research I've come to believe that there are two factors that cause a certain gimmick to last comparatively long periods of time in Switzerland:
1. Swarm intelligence (Thou shalt follow the horde). In other words, there are large groups of people who look very much alike, completely oblivious to the fact that their "cool", "free" and "in" style just lost all of its appeal after seeing the 10000th person wearing the same thing.
2. A quantum metastability event likely created by the eggheads at CERN, which caused a lower energy level bubble universe to be created in Switzerland. The observable effect is that even though the rest of the world moved on 10 years ago, hip-hop is indeed still the "coolest" thing here.
3. (pseudo fact) - mullets seem to be part of the Swiss historical legacy, being passed on for generations, from father to son, from son to sister, from sister to the neighbor's daughter and so on. The earliest records date to the 15th century when king Pia Lädälä Nünenünck was first spotted with a mullet (much to the amusement of the French delegation who almost choke to death on a piece of aged Camembert).

Mullets/ rat tails and other out-of-fashion styles are a result of Switzerland's rural heritage. Country-bumpkin hairdressers think these are still in fashion, like beer or coffee for CHF3.20. Those of us in the cites have moved on, cut off our mullets and pay well over CHF4.00...

My Swiss mate has told me that this time-honoured style is known locally as the: "Vokuhila", this aparently links back to the darkest period of the last century's history (the 70's) and arises from the instructions given to the hairdressers of these cool cats: "Vorner kurtz, hintern lang".

It isn't a good look is it? I was astonished at the number of Wham! lookylikees or at least dressylikees. All Omo white and shiny gold or shimmery silver. Who does buy their clothes in Tammy Weil (?sp), I suspect that shop to be the source of all that looks nasty in Zug. I've only ever walked past I don't think I have a strong enough stomach to actually enter

Most Swiss with even a half developed sense of fashion steer well clear.
I do know one young Swiss who sadly has adopted the mullet - he is constantly asked if he's a Croat...
