English to berndutsch blog!!!

Hey everyone! Grüessech Mitenand!

I am creating a blog IN ENGLISH which will discuss what I am currently learning/ teaching myself in the swiss german dialect of Bärndeutsch/ Berndeutsch.
So basically as I learn the language... (or at least some useful phrases to get me through whenever I am in the Bernese Oberland region), you can too!

I want to make it clear that I am brand new to this language and am in no ways an expert at all. I would also love to get feedback from any native speakers on corrections, it would definitely help a lot.

I will also be providing, some of the time, translations into high german as well for comparison. (Again, by no means am I remotely fluent in High German either ) If you would like a translation into italian, just let me know and I will do my best as I can speak a bit of italian, since I live in Italy.

I just know that after my first trip to switzerland I wanted to learn a bit more, for nostalgia and cause for some reason it just really fell in love with the people and the language. I tried to look for online resources which there wasn't or people to help me and all the responses were "learn high german." Neither of which I was looking for

So maybe this idea is stupid, maybe it won't help at all, or maybe it will be brilliant and bring loads of people to help me out and learn a ton! Either way I am gonna try.

So here's the link. I have only posted a short intro about myself and some basic greetings so far, but will continue to update it.

You mean the Stadt-Bern dialect, known as Schtadtbärnerisch ! a very clear and easy variant of Bärntüütsch

There beside that are the dialects
- of Emmenthal (Sumiswald + Wyssachen to be mentioned)
- of the "Seeland" (towards the Bielersee + Neuenburgersee)
- of the "Oberland" (around Thunersee+Brienzersee and UP
- of the "Oberaargau" (Langenthal, Oberbipp, etc)

NOT German at all is the French of the Bärner-Jura
http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moutier
with those Jurassiens who decided to stay on with Bern, as the Délémont chaps were Catholics

You've probably haven't met yet an "old" Brienzer. I grew up in Interlaken and can hardely understand them. I therefore wouldn't call this dialect Bernduetsch.
