German translation urgently needed for 'LOST WALLET' notice.

Hey peeps, I lost my wallet this morning, and I would like to put up a "lost property" sign at the bus stop where I think I left it. I need help translating it.

The current German translation was done using Google translate:

Quote:
Verloren: eine schwarze leder brieftasche.
Lost: black leather wallet.

Wenn gefunden, bitte kontaktieren sie mich!
If found, please contact me!

Telefon/Phone: 00000000000
Adresse/Address: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Any advice/modifications/thoughts welcome!

Try and wake this up for you by changing the title. There MUST be someone on here whose mother tongue is German. Come on guys, the fellow has lost something.

That's one way anyway, I'm sure there'll be a native German speaker here to provide a more elegant translation.

It's not,

but maybe in switzerland 'portemonnaie' is more common...

Re: German translation urgently needed for 'LOST WALLET' notice.

Thanks a lot for the help everyone!

Here's what I have so far:

Quote:
Heute verloren: Schwarze Brieftasche aus Leder.
Lost: Black leather wallet.

Falls gefunden bitte kontaktieren Sie mich!
If found, please contact me!

Vielen Dank!
Thanks!
There's a lot of English speaking people in these flats (interns), so I think it's wise to keep the English version as well.

Re: German translation urgently needed for 'LOST WALLET' notice.

"Porte-Monnaie" is Swiss German dialect for "Brieftasche" in High German.

Verloren: ein schwarzes Portemonnaie aus Leder

Bitte kontaktieren Sie mich, falls Sie es gefunden
oder gesehen haben.

Mobile
Email
Address

Well you don't really want to give a potential thieve your address or land line, so mobile and email is sufficient enough.

Portemonnaie is the same as Geldbörse or Brieftasche in Swiss German.

Portmannaie is actually the preferred* word for 'wallet' in Germany now, Brieftasche and Geldbeutel may still be used there but seem to be a little old fashioned.

*Certainly amongst the Germans I know (from a range of Bundesländer)

Re: German translation urgently needed for 'LOST WALLET' notice.

Portemonnaie has its roots in French and literally means "keep coins".

Re: German translation urgently needed for 'LOST WALLET' notice.

Update: I got my wallet back two days later, the day after putting up the sign. Someone put it in my mailbox in the morning with everything still inside it, including money. My address isn't in the wallet (is now), so the only way they would have known my mailbox is from the sign, it worked perfectly! I love Switzerland. Thanks for all your help!

Great news. It would be really nice to put a notice to say 'thank you' and asking the finder to come forward so you can buy them a beer.
