Well you don't really want to give a potential thieve your address or land line, so mobile and email is sufficient enough.

Portemonnaie is the same as Geldbörse or Brieftasche in Swiss German.

Portmannaie is actually the preferred* word for 'wallet' in Germany now, Brieftasche and Geldbeutel may still be used there but seem to be a little old fashioned.





*Certainly amongst the Germans I know (from a range of Bundesländer)

Portemonnaie has its roots in French and literally means "keep coins".

Update: I got my wallet back two days later, the day after putting up the sign. Someone put it in my mailbox in the morning with everything still inside it, including money. My address isn't in the wallet (is now), so the only way they would have known my mailbox is from the sign, it worked perfectly! I love Switzerland. Thanks for all your help!

Great news. It would be really nice to put a notice to say 'thank you' and asking the finder to come forward so you can buy them a beer.
