German - lessons by Skype

Has anyone had any experience getting German lessons by skype. For me it would be more flexible and may be a cost effective way to get 1-1 lessons? Any input or recommended teaches would be welcome.

Re: German - lessons by Skype

THESE guys posted an ad here (it was actually sort of spamming the forum, in the wrong place), but I checked the site before the thing was deleted and I registered. They sent me a proposal for timing, but I haven't replied yet. In brief...I don't know anything about them, BUT they offer 2 classes for free. Maybe worth checking them out.

Re: German - lessons by Skype

I just finished one of many German lessons that I've had by Skype. A bit of a different situation though. I was going to Sprechwerk in Winterthur for face-to-face lessons and then my teacher had to move. I didn't want to have a new teacher and asked if I could stay on with her through Skype lessons. It's worked out wonderfully. We have the same books. She scans me her notes from the lessons and I email her homework before we meet. The only thing to work around has been the time zones, but it certainly hasn't been impossible. I also like that I don't lose any time in my day to transit. Just long enough to log onto skype and make a pot of tea. I like the more relaxed feel as well.

In sum, if your teacher is good, then skyping should not matter.

Re: German - lessons by Skype

ok not german but have been lessons on skype for french as I have 3 young kids dont have the flexibility to get to the classes yet. I have learnt a lot from the teacher who grades the online course with written and oral exercises and then I have one to ones. she has helped a lot with pronouncation as I am a complete beginner and gave me pieces of text to read at my level to practice along side the online course in which you learn basic skills and phrases... but as I say I am beginner she tailors the lessons to suits your level. So for me and my situation I would recommend.

Bumping this up...

I would love to do Skype lessons. Is your teacher still available? What kind of textbooks are you using?

Check out http://www.myngle.com/

I've no direct experience but a colleague told me about them. She has used them and says it can work well but depends very much on your teacher and the relationship you build. As far as I recall, she said that you can change teacher though.

You can Skype with video or without

Re: German - lessons by Skype

I used to take lessons by SKYPE with a great teacher who lives in France, but is from Germany. She is fantastic. Her name is Kirsten Winkler and her e-mail is kirsten.winkler@iwpress.net. You can find more information about her at http://www.kirstenwinkler.com/about/. PM me if you would like any more information.
