french help pls...2 v. simple sentences..

I wonder if you could pls help translate this for me as my french although improving its a slow process My son had this in his diary from the teacher

tu progresses enormement en dessin et en ecriture, bravo joe. tu reussis bien egalement a dire la date en francais.

The first bit i understand, that he has made loads of progress at drawing and writing... lots of hard work at home!!
It is the second bit google translate it to me knowing something about the date in french.... ? just sounded like an odd comment...

Thanks so much

tu does mean you, she's written it as if she's speaking to your son.
