There's a bar called La Pinte right at the Lausanne train station or there are a bunch of other options right around there.

Now, we just need to recruit some native French speakers so they can correct us while we are trying to make ourselves understood. (And so that we don't just say "to h*** with it, and switch back to English!)
I might be able to help you there, for a small fee (thinking about 5-10.-/person for an hour, an hour and a half)! I live in Lutry, and can very easily come to Lausanne!

Re: Lets talk about me! Wannabe French speaker needs help

Im back!

It was terrifying im telling you! I was soooo stressed i almost got sick. Not happy about that.
Ok so there were 3 parts:

1: I had to talk about myself. Got a nice speech prepared (thanks Melusine!) and managed to go through half of it before the examiners told me it was enough.

2: Had to pretend the (young and hot!) examiner was my friend and i needed his phone to call my mom in Cyprus but he didnt want to give it to me so i had to convince him. I ended up begging and promising to buy him lunch and beer if he would give it to me just for a minute. I got it at the end so thats good

3: Had to say my opinion that kids today dont get enough exersise. I wrote down all kinds of stuff but when i had to say them in French i just totally f***ed up. Messed up tenses and conjugation but at least i kept talking.

Overall i think i did ok. The examiners were nice as well. I was in and out in 10 minutes.

Thanks to all of you for your tips and suggestions. They really helped

Great Gata! Hope you passed!

It's funny, the Cambridge Englsh exams ask exactly the same kind of things!

i can try to round up some french speakers if someone else organizes the details, i'm really bad at that. i'm sure i can tempt people with a beer or two...

and i could always use the practice (even though i have no intention of ever taking a french test !)

Its all over finally!!

Listening part was crap. I could understand most of it but not enough. I did pretty well on the comprehension ecrite part, although it sucks that i may loose points because i didnt know one word. The production ecrite was another story. I had to remove sentences to keep to the word limit and i had plenty of time. If they actually understand what i wanted to say though.....

Anw im spending the rest of the afternoon with a cup of tea and a book. Heaven!

And we are now to be kept in suspense about the outcome until when, might I ask?

Great to hear it's all over and went well- despite some difficulties with listening comp. Sadly this skill is often the least practised in lessons.

Waiting is awful - so thinking of you. Always felt so sorry for my UK students, especially at A'Level (where students have to wait for results for almost 2 months- and hear about whether they can go on to Uni/or which Uni just a couple of weeks before term starts - often 100s of miles away [with the crazy rush for places and accommodation]). Looking forward to the good news.

Don't know what method you used for the oral - but as a language teacher I always advocated using bullet points and practise but NEVER EVER memorise. A/ because an experienced examiner will pick up a 'learnt' speech from miles away and B/ because if you have a blank, it will lead to total panic + C/ if the examiner interrupts to ask a question or clarification, most won't be able to pick up again.

Hi Gata,
What material did you use to study the test? My level in French
has been assessed as B1, and I want to take the exam in the spring.

What exactly was your exam called?

Hi

I have been having lessons for an hour and a half each week although not every week due to work. It was a group of us and mostly we did grammar with some writing exersises. We used that blue and orange grammar book. No listening at all but quite a lot of speaking.

The exam was the DELF B1 (which doesnt have grammar)
