German conversation group in Basel?

Hi,

Is anyone interested in starting a German language group which would meetup on weeknights in funky bars and/or cafe's to chat in German as a way to learn the language faster ?

Re: German conversation group in Basel?

me too, but can't do tuesdays or thursdays. one thing that has really helped my german, and also helped me make a friend here is getting a "tandem partner". If you haven't heard of this it just means meeting up with someone who can speak german who you can meet up and chat with and in exchange you help them practice speaking english. I just posted a note on the unibas.ch website on their "marktplatz" site asking for a deutsch-english partner and had several people reply. It has been invaluable to have someone who is kind and patient enough to wait while I stumble along and ask "how do you say..." "what is the word for.." 10 times per sentence. You could also try contacting uni basel sprachenzentrum, I think they also help match people up. I don't think you need to be a uni student or staff member to use these services.

Jasepitt, A few years ago, I came across such a group at Centrepoint in basel. They may still be doing it. Google CenterPoint Basel or try centrepoint.ch or something like that.

Yes, they still do it. It's an hour a week, and the teacher is pretty nice. Though I found it to be more a German lesson than a conversation group. But it's helpful. www.centerpoint.ch

It's actually http://www.centrepoint.ch - with the centre spelled the non-American way.
