Re: German Practice

The use of 'ein' makes it a noun. Without 'ein' it's an adjective. Since in German the Noun Berliner and the adjective Berliner are the same, it's correct to say 'Ich bin ein Berliner' without saying you are a doughnut. If there was no doughnut called Berliner, he would be correct in saying 'Ich bin ein Berliner'

'Ich bin ein Kölner' or 'Ich bin Kölner'

There is no difference. JFK did not say he was a doughnut, lol. He said what he meant to say.

The plan is to schedule another meeting at the same time 14:30 on Wed 20th December in the same place - Starbucks at the junction of the Niederdorf and Rindermarkt - due to some of the commitments of people to make next week at that time. It'll be in the diary shortly!!

However no problem in scheduling one next Wednesday at 16:30 at the same venue for a later session. I'm around and Katie appears to be too. So if you can make it come along... I'll put this in the diary too. If you do plan on coming it is probably worth posting here so we can get an idea of attendees.
I'd love to come by sometime in the future, but I have my German course during the afternoons right down the street. How long would you guys be there if you start at 16:30?

Re: German classes

Hi sangi312000,

I did a Club Migros School in Oerlikion. I found it good, well structured. The only problem I had is that with so many differant accents in the class I found it difficult sometimes to understand other students german. My only advice would be to find people who speak high-german and practice a lot with them. Then your ear can get tuned to their german and you will pick up a lot more. Also get german CD's and cut it as a MP3 and then listen to it on a daily basis. Another is go to www.euronews.net and then in Deutsche and watch the video, the text in german is also there, so you can read and listen.

Cheers,

Re: German Practice

Rather than hjacking this post I hope I am adding to it, at least that is my intention There is a small group of people who meet every Monday evening ( well at least the last 4 out of 5 ) between 7:30-9:00 pm at Strozzi's located in Fraumunsterstrasse 25. The group will meet this Monday though not over the Christmas / New Year period.

While it is held in a bar the focus is very much on practising German. Anyone and everyone who wants to join us is welcome.

No probs KT - I was there doing my german homework and apart from the young lady actually studying spanish who I asked if she was there to speak german and got very confused in there don't think anyone else turned up. Nevermind. There is another one scheduled in the diary this week for wednesday at 14:30

Cheers

Re: German Practice

Just got back. There was only two of us, so it would have been good to have another. Leider. Wir machen über Weihnacht und Silvester eine kleine Pause und dann beginnen wir noch einmal im Januar. Ich hoffe am 8. Januar. I will make another post before then.

Re: German Practice

Heya Jut

So I went there but I couldnt find you . The only person that I saw with 20 mins was a swiss guy who had never heard of english forum . I waited til about 3.20 hoping that maybe you were late or that I had simply not seen you but no joy. But never mind - next time ...

Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

Enjoy

Re: German Practice

Hi KT

Thats strange as Jen and I were there speaking our best German and using the dictionary to look up new words in Starbucks till about 4.

Reckon we'll get new year out the way and see if we can organise another one.
