Hi ..I have a classmate she cannot speak basic German and yet the language of instruction is German.Does anyone have a Serbic-Deutsch Dictionary?

Thanks guys...but i forgot to mention that this girl does not have internet access or a computer.I was thinking maybe i could buy the dictionary for her as a gift.
She only speaks and understands Serbic,nothing similar.We have a croatian girl and they cannot communicate.

Strange. However here's a German-Serbian dictionary. If you don't want to buy it on the internet, the local bookshop probably will order it for you if you ask them.

This is quite strange that this serbian and croatian girl can not communicate. Difference between serbian and croatian languages are small and it is like Deutsch German and Swiss German. So if they tell you that they can't communicate with each other, then I can tell you for sure that is ONE BIG LIE!
For what ever reasons they are telling that.

I'm not sure from Noreen's quote if she's saying that they can't communicate between themselves, or if they can't communicate with the rest of the class...

You may be correct that they can not communicate with rest of the class, but sure they should be able to communicate between them self.

Serbian and Croatian communities in Switzerland are quite big, so some dictionaries should be available in most of the book shops. And also local libraries should have some copies.

Regarding the Croatian girl, there is no way they can not communicate with each other. Trust me, I would know that.

They can communicate with each other language-wise

They most probably won't want to talk to each other, but this is another kind of communication barrier.

I have serbian and croatian friends, once I made an attemt to introduce a croatian girl to another serbian girl, same age, both super nice and communicative, both at the Uni, common interests etc.... it was the fail of the year... it was glacial and they just went to 180° directions just after that.

Any reason for this so called Serbian & Croatian drifts...!! Any currents flowing ...

My dad is from Montenegro and I learned how to speak his language which used to be serbokroatian before the war started. I'm at a loss since the war as to what language I speak: croatian or serbian?

So I agree that the girls can definitely communicate but just choose not to.
