[Migros German Course]How do I choose the right level?

Hi there, since I've planned to start a german course at Migros by the end of february, I was wondering the right level I would have to choose.
I mean, I saw levels like A-B etc... or entry levels like E-F. Could anyone suggest the right level for a (almost absolute)beginner like I am?

Nik

Migros will give you a placement test( Einstufungstest ). They will then help you determine which course based upon work schedule and level.

Do you mean high german, rather than Swiss german? As the poster above mentioned they have a placement test, but just FYI, Migros usually has a course for absolute beginners, then it goes from A1 (very basic ability) through C2, which is a very high level of fluency.

Anfänger/innen - this is the course for an absolute beginner, with no prior knowledge
Muttersprache - is for native speakers

Hi Nik,

Since you say your an almost absolute beginner, the Deutsch Anfänger/innen (beginner course) would be perfect for you. I was an almost absolute beginner myself until I did this course.

This course just reinforces what you think you know. But what it also does is, it gives you a very clear theoretical picture of genders, spellings, articles and such. Prior to the course I knew most of the stuff verbally, but now I know spellings, genders and articles too.

I would suggest start from scratch and work your way up

All the best.
Maria

Many thanks for your suggestions.
Anyway, I'm not interested in the Swiss German dialect or other german dialects (like the Südtirol one ) but only High German.

Best regards
Nik

Re: [Migros German Course]How do I choose the right level?

U can do an online test on the Migros website that basically tells you what class you need to go into. When you get your score, give them a call, and they will tell you what class to go into...

Absolutely Nik...it made me more confident to converse with the little German I knew. And oh, do the intensive course.

Well, it all depends on you....
Many people taking classes at Migros or other (language) schools think the ability to speak is already included in the price they pay (I used to teach myself at Migros and experienced that).

Of course, the more your work and practise german has a direct influence on your ability to speak the language then.

Good luck, give the best!

Hi Maria, thanks again.
What do you mean with intensive course? Do I need to choose the intensive level? I mean, two days a week should be fine or more intensive?

Nik

Re: [Migros German Course]How do I choose the right level?

Your most welcome Nik. I did the one day a week course and it just dragged on for 3 months. It is quite easy assuming you already know a bit of German, I think there's a 4 day, a week option. Maybe a 3 day, a week option too. I personally would have preferred that one. I think your done in a month then. But that's just my personal opinion.

Cheers
Maria

Re: [Migros German Course]How do I choose the right level?

i agree with maria...the more times a week you go, the faster youll be picking it up..im currently taking an intensive class in oerlikon, 5 days a week for a month and yes at times it can be tiring and a little overwhelming but i recommend it if you have the time to do it-going in everyday keeps me in the "german mind set" unlike if i were to go 1 or 2 days a week and then have a few days off..it also helps keep you on top of it all, you basically have to adjust to the fast pace of the class and force yourself to learn something new everyday

hope you chose the right one for you

Hi all! Does anyone have any of the cycle books that go along with the reference book that they might like to get rid of? I have the first three cycles and the ref book but would like the other nine.
Thanks!

Re: [Migros German Course]How do I choose the right level?

Hello!

Is there anyone here who's signed up for the semi-intensive A2 level german course in Migros? The one wednesdays and fridays from 8:30-10:00pm starting on de 25th of March. I'd like to know if I need to buy some kind of textbook or if they will provide it.

See you there!

It will most probably be Migroklubschule A2 Deutsch book, you should be able to get at the reception desk on the first day of your class.

I think its not included in the price, it is something like 54CHF which includes a course and exercise book, some grammar book thing and a couple of CDs.

Happy learning!!!
