Looking for (European) Portuguese teacher for private lessons in Zürich area

Hi,

I am looking for a Portuguese teacher in Zürich area, who teaches European Portuguese, not Brazilian. (All the ones I have found so far are teaching Brazilian Portuguese.) Anybody knows of anyone?

Siri

Out of curiosity, why you don't want to learn Brazilian Portuguese? In written form they are basically the same, in spoken form Brazilian Portuguese sounds 10x better.

Re: Looking for (European) Portuguese teacher for private lessons in Zürich area

If it helps you decide for a Brazilian Portuguese teacher:

1. I disagree that it sounds 10x better, I find it funny myself; and I also disagree it is almost the same in written form although there was a relatively recent agreement that made the written form much closer

but

2. Portuguese people will nearly always understand a Brazilian speaker whereas vice-versa it is much more hit and miss. I think this is in part due to larger exposure of Portuguese people to Brazilian (through stuff like soap operas, funnily enough), but also in part due to the way the respective sounds are trickier to distinguish. My point being that if you learn Brazilian Portuguese you will be more widely understood, which would be my goal in learning a foreign language. Plus there are many, many more millions speaking the Brazilian version.

If you have a very specific reason for going for the "original" Portuguese, then of course the above reasons won't convince you anyway.

Hello Siri,

Have you been able to find a European Portuguese teacher? I am looking for the same, also in the Zurich area.
Thank you!
Cris

Hi Sirichar and crislauri, it's a pity it's in Zurich, I live near Basel, and I am a Portuguese teacher (from Portugal) and I would be glad to take you both. But Zurich is quite far for me!

Hi Siri! I'm portuguese and I live in Zürich but unfortunately I'm not a teacher - but if you want someone to practice and chat a bit, feel free!

Hi Crislauri,

I'm portuguese and I'm in Zürich. I'm not a Portuguese teacher but I think I can really teach you like one, or at least, have a nice conversation. I'm a neuroscientist working in the hospital. Feel free to ask further informations. It would be nice to meet you

Re: Looking for (European) Portuguese teacher for private lessons in Zürich area

I have been learning EU Portuguese for almost a year now over the Skype and have managed to reach level A2 (continuing with level B1 now). However, as I live and work in Zürich I miss the opportunity to speak and practice the language for I do not know any Portuguese here in Zürich. The few hours/week on Skype are not sufficient. I would be happy to meet some Portuguese people here in so that I could speak more frequently and improve...

Hello Patza

I would be glady to help you.
