Online Tests [German]

* Static test - same questions for all candidates
** Dynamic test - generally new questions each time

** Migros Klubschule (Sprachtest > Deutsch > zum Online-Test)
* Deutsch-lernen.com - Short Test (long test requires registration)
** Inligua.ch

Hmmm, looks like someone beat me to it - A large list of online German tests

EF members are invited to rate the tests on this thread if they wish.

Re: Online Tests [German]

60% is pass mark? I thought 40% was the pass mark! If 40% was fail then why did they recommend B1 to me and not A1 (if I really failed the A1 test)?

Its not an exam, it is a grading test. 40% is probably sufficient to do a B1 course without struggling. A lot depends on your existing language skills ie. people with very good English skills progress quite rapidly in german classes because of the inherent similarities (with the exception of gender).

Don't worry, you are not alone. Written skills are normally the weakest for any foreign language, and German is no exception, especially because of the complex grammar.

But one way or another, if you want to learn this language you are going to have to practice the written component. Mark has gone to great length to assemble a wide array of topics and cheat sheats that you will find very helpful when you put pen to paper.
