Birth certificate translation: Russian to German with notary certification

Hi everyone,

our daughter was born and in order for her to get a birth certificate from the Zollikon Gemeinde, we need to translate our birth certificate from Russian into German and get it certified by a local notary.

We got an offer from a translation company in Zurich city which was about 500 SFR. This looks too expensive for us and we were wondering whether anyone could recommend of such services in Zurich?

Thanks and regards!

Can't you find anybody in Russia or Germany, that can translate Russian into German, and use a Russian / German Notary??

Re: Birth certificate translation: Russian to German with notary certification

Thank you for the advice. We certainly can find a cheap translator in Russia or Germany; however the notary has to be local and we are not sure how the notary works and whether he/she would accept a translation from a foreign translator...

Maybe a phone call to the Zollikon Gemeinde would save you a few hundred Francs? Who defined local, and how far is local?

Re: Birth certificate translation: Russian to German with notary certification

Usually the office where you register births can give you a list if approved translators ( you may even be able to find it on their website) or the Rusdian embassy may be able to help you.

They are pretty strict in these things and won't accept any old translation by any old person.

The notary certifies the signature of the translator, not the translation. Just find someone you know who can translate the birth certificate for you.

Re: Birth certificate translation: Russian to German with notary certification

notariell beglaubigte übersetzung

google the above, pick a few hits and ask their price for what you need. Such a translation is usually accepted by every swiss Gemeinde, but you want to verify that when you call the Gemeinde.

About fifteen years ago I translated the vietnamese birth certificate of a friend of chinese origin. The certificate was bilingual in french and vietnamese (Vietnam used to be a french colony), so my french learnt in the gymnasium (college) was enough for the job - it was no problem to get that notarized (don't ask me why it needed to be translated as the french couldn't have been much more evident). As has been said, notarisation only says that the translation has been performed to the translators best knowledge, per se it says nothing about the quality of the translation itself.

If you have it translated abroad you may additionally need an "Apostille". Also ask the Gemeinde if you intend to go that route.

Did you try the russian embassy in zurich? It's worth shooting them a quick e-mail, they probably know someone who can help you.

Go to Proz.com
http://www.proz.com/translator-direc..._year&orderby=

You can change the criteria if this translator doesn't offer what you need for your price. Worth a try.
