Perplexing phrases

So, let me get this straight -- I don't need to take my washing machine and all my pipework to this particular plumber when I have a problem, right?

(To be fair, it's a play on words -- it means "we make house visits (we come to you)" but also "we do the rounds", or make house calls in the medical sense.)

Well for me it doesn't sound that bad. It's a play on words and on the idea that house plumbing it's called "sanitary installations" in some parts of the world. WC, bath tube, sinks, water pipes, everything is "sanitary", which also relates to medical stuff.

I guess.

Re: Perplexing phrases

Maybe the firm is simply trying to differentiate itself, with that personal touch, from the online retailers. Even Migros will sell you a washing machine these days.
But, yes, normally the expectation is that if you want a tap washer changed, or a new bath plug, that some one will call round and fit it.
Of course, there is a trend to add a type of marketing slogan to any business name to give it some sort of depth, even if it sounds ridiculous:
The internal post 'brings it'.
We are there in the dead of night (funeral director).
You can count on us (accountant)
etc. etc.

Re: Perplexing phrases

The van is parked neatly between the lines - maybe there's also hidden lines underground, that helped?
