Best and the most affordable intensive [German] course in zurich

Hey guys,

Ill be soon moving to switzerland (probably in a month). I am already learning german from websites like memrise and busuu along with watching videos on youtube.

What i was wondering was could anyone recommend me an intensive course in zurch which is both good and affordable i have been reading the forum and get a feeling that if i want a good course i would have to go to bellingua but its very expensive for someone who wont have a job (around 3200 chf for 10 weeks) and if i want cheap i would have to go with migros but they are not good enough (or so i get the impression)

So could you guys please recommend me a school which can offer both? Or is migros good enough to be able to achieve a level where language wont be a problem in finding a job?

Re: Best and the most affordable intensive course in zurich

I heard that the Migros schule is good from several people. The main drawback (and reason for the low price) is the class size is larger.

Skype lessons might be a cheaper alternative. My colleague has one to one lessons with a German residing in Greece. They are even cheaper that Migros lessons.

Try Easy Languages. they are a German language school who use SKYPE for one to one lessons. they are about 17 euro per hour. I love the flexibility and you can choos what you want to study.. also you don't have to go at the same pace as the slowest person in the class....

Maybe it would be more advisable to take an intensive
course in Germany for a few weeks first?

Also, one can find a private tutor, using this website:

Try www.flyingteachers.ch. They are very reasonable. Class size range from 8 to 11. I've taken 2 courses there; one teacher was amazing, the other was a blah. It depends on the teacher really, IMHO.

I have been to MIGROS and the impression I got was where did all the money go? Realy I could have done all of the course with books, DVD's etc at home for a fraction of the cost and got more out of it. i have seen german grammar, verb etc exercise books that are much better than migros. Furthermore the classes consisted of people from many countries and working out problems used up lots of time and most of the time students had to figure things out at home using a pc or their partner etc.

So this Easy Language deal does sound good. No wasted time sitting in a seat waiting for the teacher to explain trivial stuff to people who dont speak a language the teacher knows.

Sorry but migros is a waste of money and time. It is too expencive and too corporate. Learn on the pc or ipad and mix in exercise books and a mountain load of other material such as verb books etc etc. then go to the local shops and practice your german and practice telling to locals to stop switching over to swiss german mid sentence.

Re: Best and the most affordable intensive course in zurich

I really enjoy my lessons.
I studied with both Allegra and Bllingua and you are right the teachers would often 'waste' time going over homework or repeating stuff I already understood. Thats why I opted for the private lessons and at 17euro an hour they are not expensive. You can do a trial lesson for free and they are ok if you want to swap teachers around too.
I had the option to work through a course book - as you would in class, but I asked to focus on conversation and talk.
So my teacher emails me a few news articles and I select one I am interested in. I read it to her, she corrects my pronunciation and then she gets me to sumarise each paragraph. then we discuss the article.
All the time she is writing SKYPE notes that I can refer to later and if there are any grammar things I need to focus on then we discuss them as we go along.
I am at B1 level and this is a perfect solution for me..... AND I can do it in my pajamas

Does the german school have to be in Zurich? I went to AVS in Baden and found it to be really good and cheaper than the schools in Zurich.

Re: Best and the most affordable intensive [German] course in zurich

1) You may try to schedule some classes to do over Skype 1:1.
website: www.italki.com
more specific 1:1 and learn fast (hourly rate)

2) you may join the class in ECAP (around 12 - 15 student)
website: infozh@ecap.ch
then, you can read, write and hear
Beginner : 390CHF/ per 3 months

ECAP Foundation, Neugasse 116, 8005 Zurich

I have the experience to study the elementary course in Migro there no
chance to talk or write, just learning grammer. Big issue if you are started
from scratch, that waste time since no teach will use english even
you cannot understand

EB Zurich is the best value for money. I've tried all the schools and this one has motivated teachers / students, but not too expensive.

It's 840 chf / month for an intensive course.

I did a beginner's course at EB Zurich, about 10 people in the class. Great teacher and good value for money.

There is also Berlitz and Inlingua. But: For the teachers it's better, when you find one, over tutti.ch (for example), because the instituts are paying a very bad salary to the teacher. Normally about 20-25CHF and this with a time table from 55 hours a week. It is really stress for those teachers and "industrial".

Good look, and welcome, soon in Switzerland

Do you have a link for Easy Languages... I found one site, but couldn't see any sign of Skype lessons.
