Hi, Ive recieved a message from a swiss-german friend that I cant work out....Please help me here.....
"bis am suntig, aber samstig-sunntig würd sie in züri sie. vilicht chasch sie jo dötte treffe?! wie laufts mit lerne? bisch fliessig? ich bin im moment am bädele/shoppe :-) herrlich!! gange jetzt denn gad uf konstanz, am obig lueged mir dötte s dütschland spiel, würd sicher total lustig"...
Language Corner seems to become popular among those who wish to translate personal messages in Swiss German...
"Til Sunday, but Saturday-Sunday she would be in Zurich. Maybe you can meet her there?! How's it going with your studies? Are you working hard? At the moment, I'm bathing/shopping :-) Marvelous!! I'm going to Konstanz soon, in the evening we will watch the Germany game there, certainly it will be much fun"
In at least two cases SD was used as a way to flirt, but now that I think of it, it could also be that somebody snooped around and found a week-old SMS here ("Germany game").
hey thanks guys for the help.....snooping huh...No its an sms from girlfriends phone, and i lost mine so took a while to recieve... I was mostly confused with dotte.....i speak a little german but my swiss-german is poor, and had no idea about that one.......Thanks once again
This might just about do it - perhaps someone comes up with a more accurate translation later. However, maybe all the Swiss German speakers are all out enjoying themselves...
Many thanks for your good wishes.
I'm a bit late too. At the moment it is very hot here. I don't expect it's any different where you are.
Very Best Wishes (might be a bit more personal than that)
Chrigel (Christian?)
Good morning.
Literally it means 'dear greetings'. 'Best wishes' sound a bit 'dry' in comparison but I just couldn't think of a better phrase for it. Perhaps someone else comes up with a better idea - it's only a fine point though.
Literally, "I greet you dearly". It has become more common in SMS and emails among the youth in recent years and now often means nothing more than "see you".
