Attend German class in Basel

Hallo Everyone, I am looking for some suggestions about attending a German evening class in Basel.

When I first arrived Switzerland several months ago, I attended a group class in die Migro Klubschule (not in Basel). Honestly I was not very fond of it. Then I studied in die Benedict Schule. I had a very good time and my German was improved decently (at least I am satisfied ).

But I will move to Basel next month and there is no Benedict Schule there. Does anyone knows about a similiar school in Basel? For example, schools using Themen aktuell as the text book, the students are driven, etc. Thanks a lot.

Re: Attend German class in Basel

Hello,

I did a German course at the Volkshochschule in Basel. They have quite a selection of language courses, all done by native speakers. Here is the link:

hope this helps

Hello, I arrived in Basel in april and started my german lessons in Accademia (Schifflande). If you can get Rainer as your teacher...you'll be very lucky.

Did you have a look at Inlingua? They're not bad.

Re: Attend German class in Basel

The best recommendation I can give out is to try to sit in on a class to see if you like how the instructor teaches. It seems that every school probably has good and not-so-good instructors. The dynamics of the class can make a difference as well. It was good for me to be in a class where the only language we could talk to each other in was German.

I was able to sit in on a class at Klubschule Migros before I committed to an entire course and found that the instructor was excellent. One thing the instructor did that I found great for learning was to take a break for coffee in the middle of the the (3 hour) class, where we would all just simply chat with each other in German.

Re: Attend German class in Basel

hi!

I am sorry to come back on the topic again... I will move to Basel soon and am looking for an INTENSIVE with all capital letters German course for (absolute) beginners. I had a look at all the schools you mentioned in this thread and realise that it requires quite a lot of money... an incentive to make the best choice!

I am looking for a very intensive course that allows me after completion to actually interact in every day life (A2-B1 level i suppose).

Knowing myself, I would defenetly prefer a challenging course then something easy and slow. And this what I am most concern about: in these course it seems that you may find yourself loocked in the class for 10-12 weeks every day.

did any of you take an intensive course for beginners that have found rather challenging but effective? After completion, could you really deal with the language? I am at the moment looking at Inlingua, NHS, Berlitz e SKK but do not exclude any other.

thanks a lot

Re: Attend German class in Basel

HELLO. yes coureses are quite expensive.you can make a lot of progress with personal tutoring. For oyur improvements... Lot depends on you and your time for studing...and on the other hand Basel doesn't permit you to hear and practise High german. everbody speaks Swiss german! so if you can attend a one to one personal training and try to exercise with german environment...
I still suggest Rainer or Anita of Academia. Thez are really qualified, and if you push they push.
Nice time
