Re: on a budget? need to learn french!!

I have managed to study French quite intensively past two years almost for nothing - good webs see these posts ( I download podcasts and take them to gym with me), then courses twice a week at College Voltaire in Geneva (50 francs a year) and free conversation classes once a week in Geneva, organized by couple of cool volunteers through glocals. I also went to French conversation cafe run in an old squat at Rue de l'Industrie 11, Ge (once a week, 5fr). I am not sure how far you are from this but maybe you could find similar options at your area? Good luck, learning languages does not really have to cost a lot of cash

Re: on a budget? need to learn french!!

Join a club - I started doing Tae Kwon Do in French a few months ago, and it's been marvellous for my listening/speaking. It's not even that difficult, as I just copy everyone else if I have no idea what the instructions meant. Everyone's so helpful and patient with me. And I'm hugely more fit.

It's a big boost, too, to make the jump from 'taking lessons to learn French' to 'taking lessons IN French, to learn something else'.

(PS: Anyone at about A2/B1 in French; I've just put an update on the thread that Music Chick links to in her post above)

Re: on a budget? need to learn french!!

I came across this website. Not sure if it might help. Seems to be free up to a certain level then not too expensive after that.

try just watching TV in French...

If you're really on a budget...

try watching TV in French or watch DVDs in French.

It won't happen overnight of course, but neither will a language course or a workbook...

But if you stick to it for 6 months or more you will notice that you can understand and speak French much better than you ever imagined...

I have used it for French and German (and Swiss German too) AND my husband used it for English (he's French)...

There's a more informative article on learning French here

And there are quite a few articles about how to deal with learning a foreign language here too

Re: on a budget? need to learn french!!

Another free website for learning French or any other language...

http://www.livemocha.com

It's basically like Rosetta Stone but online and free.

Good for beginners or someone in need of a review of the basics...
