Re: [German] Which is the best school in Zurich?

Has anybody tried Goethe Distance learning.

On the face of it , looks really good and offers certification along with the course.

Would like some feedback on it, before I order it online.

Pros:1.evrything online with certificate
2.Goethe , known name
3.Even two people can attend the course in same price.

http://www.goethe.de/lrn/prj/fnu/dln/a1/eld/enindex.htm
Awaiting feedback !!!!

Cheers

Re: [German] Which is the best school in Zurich?

Hey there,

I am been living in Zurich for 3 years now. I wanted to attend a school to learn german but kept procrastinating it. Meantime, though, I have kept sepnding few hours a week on content availeble online (i.e. livemocha, german.about.com) and some other random stuff. Now i know the basic Grammar (Dative/Akk/Nominative,Strong/week verbs, Reflexive/(in)transitive verbs) pretty well but, obviously, don't know all the verbs which fall under these categories which will come through practise i guess. I have also developed a basic vocabulory in the process (I can read Comics in German with little help of Dictionary ;-)

Since my approach has not been systamatic, i have not developed any 'ÉARs' to understand German (Or because it's Swiss German which even Native German speakers find difficult to understand) .I can speak basic german but again i am not sure my pronunciation is at par.

Now, When I seriously want to take my german to next level, I am thinking of
joining a school but don't really want to start with very basic. So my question is : Does every the school (inlingua/Migros clubschule) assess the person before putting him in the right class? My main aim is to build my Oratory and listening skills at the same time stregthening my vocab.

Any feedback is appreciated.
Ciao

Re: [German] Which is the best school in Zurich?

Hello,

I've been learning German in Bellingua (Löwenstrasse Zürich) for several months now (intensive class, mornings). I am very happy with the school and plan staying until C1 test in June 2010. I knew German before and was placed on B1 after I took the placement test. The level was just right for me. Learning is effective, students are motivated and the two teachers that I have had are excellent. Can highly recommend to anyone,

FinnMom

German Classes at Alpha Sprachstudio in Zurich

Hello,

I am considering taking classes at Alpha Sprachstudio next month. I visited the school yesterday and the staff seemed professional and knowledgable.

I have basic information, namely that class sizes are 4 - 10 students, classes meet 4 hours a day, Monday - Friday.

Has anyone taken classes there or know of someone who has? If so, what are your impressions of the school.

Your comments are greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Tony

Re: German Classes at Alpha Sprachstudio in Zurich

I am studying there at the moment and have been since December. Personally I would love to keep going but have other commitments that start next month. Our teacher is fantastic and professional and most of the students are highly motivated learners which keeps the pace of the lessons at a good level.
Send me a PM if you need any more info

Re: [German] Which is the best school in Zurich?

Now that I am returning to Zurich I am interested in starting learning German in June 2010. Is Alemania the best priced and quality school around at the moment? Any other suggestions for the same or lower price range for intensiv course?

Thanks!

Re: [German] Which is the best school in Zurich?

Same as me.

As far as I red, Alemania seems to be one of the cheapest, and I have a friend who told me that they've changed their staff/teachers a few time ago and now they are doing pretty good.

I checked lots of school websites and Alemania is the most interesting until now.

Re: [German] Which is the best school in Zurich?

I learned German in ECAP for half an year. The price is quite cheap. But the speed of the class is a little bit slow for me. But the teacher is quite nice. At least most students can not speak in English, which forced me to practice German.

Re: [German] Which is the best school in Zurich?

I have done a meta-study of people's opinion here is the result:

German School with their score:

Alpha + + + + + (Good quality but expensive)
Bellingua + + + + +
Migros + + + - + + (Good for the price)
EB + + + (Good and cheap)
Sprachwelten + +
oekos + +
Benedict - +
LSI - (Good if you want to kiss the teacher)
SKK +
Allemania +

I did not read the post in detail I just schemed it and got some opinions:

Some extracts I collected:
Benedicte is supposed to be the worst of the bunch in Zurich

Migro and in addition to it being the cheapest (and includes books), I have found it very good

EB and it was very good, though I got a bad teacher in one of the classes

Alpha is also supposed to be good, but expensive.

Alpha and they have told me it's very good

I really like the people at Sprachwelten (www.sprachwelten.ch)

What about inlingua? I went there at the recommendation from a colleague and they seemed very professional

Bellingua is definitive the best after my opinion

I treid LSI, didnt learn any German, kissed the teacher though

I have now been at SKK on Löwenstr, Zürich ( www.skkonline.ch) since April. I would highly reccommend this place.

I recommend Bellingua (on Löwenplatz) very highly and anytime.

I think my teacher at Bellingua was also called Alex, and I can highly recommend him.

Now Im in Migro and in addition to it being the cheapest (and includes books), I have found it very good. A few years ago I was at

Alpha is also supposed to be good, but expensive.

I've been doing Migros for 1 night a week since the beginning of march, beginner level. I'm finding it pretty helpful.

The most frustrating thing about the "Migros Klubschule" German course is that it's slow.

I then went to Sprachwelten which I wholly recommend.

I went to Alpha at stadelhofen for 4 months and found it really good as the classes are quite small,

I went to the Benedict intensiv german course for 6 months in Zurich and have found it great

Well i was in the Migros, is really good and the price good!

i liked oekos the most cause it just teaches german and i found the teachers very good.

Well I went to Oekos.Benedikt and Volkshochschule. Oekos was the best. Benedikt is too big and too bureaurocratic. Volkshochschule is not so good. Oekos is friendly and good relaxed teachers.
http://www.oekos.ch/

I go to EB Zürich, its by far the best school and cheapest and it actually depends on the teachers too www.eb-zuerich.ch

personally think Alpha is the best !!!

I am currently learning German at Bellingua.

I did a 4 week intensive plus course at Migros. I found it good, but feel i didnt learn as much as i liked.

I've been learning German in Bellingua (Löwenstrasse Zürich) for several months now (intensive class, mornings). I am very happy with the school and plan

i m going to Allemania and we have the same book
EB and it was very good, though I got a bad teacher in one of the classes.

Re: [German] Which is the best school in Zurich?

Hi All

I am desperately looking for a GOOD german school, where you lern fast how to speak, (at least daily life). I have tried Migros, and was unlucky with the teacher, it was awful. I thought it was because it was the cheapest.
So now tried allegra, it is expensive, but again too much focus on the exercises and not really speaking in the class. The teacher is definately inexperienced with teaching german.
Do you know anywhere that they are really profesional language teachers?, force you to speak in the class and more importantly CORRECT you!
Thanks really a lot

Re: [German] Which is the best school in Zurich?

Years ago I did the conversation class at Sprachwelten. The teacher would give us plenty of grammar homework but when we were there we all had to speak and discuss newspaper articles.

You could ring them up and see if they have still have these classes running or maybe you could put a class together. If you have enough people, I am sure you could easily get a teacher/facilitator that would follow your lesson plans.

Hope this helps.
