German conversation practice in Basel/Riehen area

Hello,
I am quite new here to the Basel area, I have been here only two months. I have started a beginner german class but everyone in my class is much more advanced than I am as they have been here for one year up to twelve years. I am looking for a beginner german speaker that would like to get together and go over the basics such as, saying hello, asking people how they are, counting, gender and articles, ordering food, verb endings, etc. If you are interested, please pm me. I am available anytime after 12 noon Mon to Thurs and anytime on friday.

That is weird that everyone in your class is much more advanced than you, when i started to learn German here everyone was at the same level so we could all learn together e.g beginners, middle, advanced e.t.c.

I would of liked to help you, but i am to far away from you.

Goodluck.

Re: German conversation practice in Basel/Riehen area

Thank you Sutter. Yes, I also thought it was strange that I was the only true beginner in my beginner german class. Everyone else has been here for a long time, two years on up, so they speak and understand ALOT more than I do. But I am staying in the class because even though I don't understand everything, it does help. I have already in three weeks started to understand alot more. Speaking is another story though....but I'll get there, I'm not the first. I get help from my husband and his family but they are fluent swiss german speakers and it is not so easy for them to slow down and speak high german with me.

When i moved here my swiss German family would always forget to speak High German with me, so i would just kind of give my husband a nudge to hint i was there, and he would talk slower, and speak High German and he would tell the others also to speak slower. Goodluck with the German i know it is not easy, but you will get there in the end

Re: German conversation practice in Basel/Riehen area

Hi! Spotted your post before Christmas but life got in the way of replying. My husband and I moved to Basel back in April while I have some German he has only recently started classes and shares your frustration in needing to practise with folks that are willing to take the time and be patient..
As James is also currently job hunting he has more free time than me - and during the daytime and would be willing to meet up - I am also willing to meet up but it would need to be at the weekend or an evening!
James - also meets up with some of the folks from his class to practise outside of the group so perhaps thats another set of connections for you...
best wishes
Alison

I would be interested in joining or creating a speaking group that would practice german but also have a good time.

Please drop me an email if you are interested or if you know a nice group.
I am 26 year old and enjoy good laughs. I live in Basel.
