Affordable German Language Courses in Basel

Hi,

I have been trying to find a good German language course in Basel (which will not break the bank ). So far I have checked up Inlingua, Berlitz and SKK. However all these institutes are quite expensive (upwards of 1800 CHF for a beginner course in German lasting 20 weeks approx. with 1 session per week).

Can someone please inform me whether there are other financially viable alternatives to learn German in Basel? I am looking for a course which will grant a certificate at the end of completion of a particular level.

Thanks in Anticipation,
Sagar

Hello,

Check out Migros Klubschule, they offer all sorts of courses and levels and some with certification as well. Here's the link:

Viel Glück und viel Spass!

I would definitely try Klubschule Migros. You get the best bang
for the buck!

Berlitz is definitely good, but it is EXPENSIVE!

Re: Affordable German Language Courses in Basel

Does anyone know anything about ACADEMIA? They just won some new business award and it's been recommended by a couple of swiss friends that work there...hence, my fear of it being bias. Expensive? Quality? Any help would be nice. Thanks

Thanks to everyone! I'll check up the leads and see if they match my requirements (especially the course completion certificate). If I get any information, I'll post the same on the forum.

Regards,
Sagar

Re: Affordable German Language Courses in Basel

I had very good impressions at Inlingua.ch at Aeschenplatz Basel in 2008 while I was studying French. They are not cheap, but they kept and even increased my motivation and that is priceless.
Migros Clubschule can be also interesting, if you don't have that much money.
Or try learning online with myngle.com for example. It is much cheaper than studying offline in Switzerland. You can even practice free of charge at sharedtalk.com.

Re: Affordable German Language Courses in Basel

Orsini at Heuwagge is slightly cheaper but not much, finding a college student to give you private lessons might be a cheaper alternative.Check out the Unibas website.

Language school recommendations

Hi All
can any one recommend a language school in Basel to learn German.
I got off the boat a couple of weeks back and currently a house husband. I'm a qualified mechanical/design engineer so it would be good to find something constructive to do that would help me in finding some work out here.
Many thanks in advance
Ken

Re: Language school recommendations

Definately go intensive, whichever school you choose.
From all the people I've met who have learnt it and are actually getting by in the real world, the common theme is they all had intensive courses.
The one or two lessons a week guys just flounder, and that includes me.
I have a friend at Acadamia, he says it's good.
Inlingua are very good, if expensive. This topic is covered a lot here on this forum.
You could look over the border to Lörrach or Weil am Rhein. They are very easy to get to and they will be cheaper.

Same situation here, I want to lear Gearman in Basel starting the very begining, searched for a few school, and found that only Academia mentioned "Beginner Level".

Any suggestion on schools for beginners? I want multi-choices. Thanks

I am taking a course with ecap (Clarastrasse 17, 4005). I looked at quite a few courses and theirs was the best value. I have been very impressed with them so far.

Re: Affordable German Language Courses in Basel

You know what... I'm not sure but maybe Center Point can help...
Few weeks ago I saw some language courses there so maybe it's worth visiting. I think they won't give you any certificate that you would like to have but I think it might be a good chance to improve langauge skills.
Good luck!
