Hi,

I hope I am posting this in the right forum. I have an employment contract that I need to get translated from German into English. Can anyone recommend a good, inexpensive, translator? Someone with whom I could do the business by e-mail and/or phone as I am still located in the U.S. We will not be moving to Switzerland until around April.

If you have the contract electronically (e.g. PDF) you can use a programme like Systrans to translate it from German to English. It will do a half decent job, and will probably pay for itself after its first use.

If you have a paper contract then you can pick up any half decent scanner for about $50-100 (with a sheet feeder) and it should come bundled with an OCR programme.

I have a simple set up at home where I can feed German correspondance into my scanner and what comes out the other end is the English translation.

AHV (Alters- und Hinterlassenenversicherung)
IV (Invalidenversicherung)
EO (Erwerbsersatzordnung)
ALV (Arbeitslosenversicherung)
NBU (Nicht-Betriebsunfallversicherung)
KTG (Krankentaggeldversicherung)
die berufliche Vorsorge (BVG)
Quellensteuern (QST)

Does anyone know the equivalent english names for the above deductions? I'm getting some translations, but some don't make sense.

For which I apparently get two days off, best I can get is "birth of a partner" (so is this for when my wife delivers a baby?)[/font]
