English Test

After reading far too many could of' and should of' instead of could have and should have on this forum (and just now in the law suit thread miss Sutter!!) i am wondering really, what is the state of peoples knowledge of English, mine isn't great when it comes to grammar terminology but spelling and general use of words i.e there, their and they etc.. and punctuation is i'd say average to good

So here's a test the BBC has posted - i scored 16/20 - wonder what other people get

Re: English Test

Not being very clinical, I only scored 16/20. Major problems with sophisticated vocabulary "Onomatopoeia" which still makes me shiver when I have to pronounce it!

God possibly not...... but presumptious.....

Given the number of variations of spelling and grammer throughout the various forms English now takes, I would be loathed to really tackle anyone about it how they use it, and that's before I think of the numerous members of the EF for whom English (in UK, US, AUS etc derivatives, and the dreaded text speak) is a 2nd or 3rd language, I don't really care too much.... as long as I can get the gist of it, I'm a happy bunny.... or I was until I only got 16/20...eek

Re: English Test

I got all 20 , but then language is my job, so I suppose that's cheating??

Just don't try me with maths.......

Yesterday, whilst shopping in Bern, I noticed a book by the young Swiss chef
Ivo Adam. I was interested because he used to cook in our local gourmet
restaurant. He's very good.
However, the title of the book had me laughing. There he was, on the front, in cool chef / Rodin's Thinker pose; and there in big letters alongside :

"Seven Ways to Eat Different"

He was definitely badLY advised there!!!!!!!
