Re: Find Your Tandem/Language Exchange Partner on EF!

I would like someone to chat with in German or Swiss German.

i) language(s) that you are learning, including level
German A2

ii) language(s) you speak natively
English and Cantonese

iii) your location
Zurich, Schaffhausen, Basel
iv) personal interests (eg sport, film, music etc)
Dancing, Ballroom dancing, Fencing, skiing, Eating/cooking, gadgets, finance/economics, film-making and photography

v) short introduction about yourself
I lived and worked in London for 9 years and moved to Switzerland in 2009.

Now that it looks like I'm going to stay here, I figured it's about time I tried harder to learn German.

Since I'm usually quite busy, I can only meet up after work, but I am flexible on location - either Zurich, Schaffhausen or Basel.

I like to talk about pretty much anything, but I don't like TV, Sport or Celebrity news. I particularly like to talk about stuff that is weird, funny or unusual

As I travel a lot on the trains, I'm happy to have chat on the Zurich-Schaffhausen or Zurich-Basel routes if timetable allows.

As I like to eat, I'm also happy to chat over dinner as I would like to try more restaurants.

Re: Find Your Tandem/Language Exchange Partner on EF!

Learnt German to B2 level, on & off for 4 years. Competent with grammar but need practise speaking.
Native language - English
Location - Zürich
Interests - travel, hiking, riding, racket sports
Have lived in the Zürich area for almost 4 years. Would like to improve my German by occasional contact with a native German speaker. Ideally one hour in English & one hour in German. Or 30 mins in each language if too long. Would prefer to meet up in the Bellevue area.

Tandem language learning is a method of language learning based on the mutual exchange of language between tandem/language partners. Ideally, each learner is a native speaker in the language that the other party wishes to learn. it affords a unique opportunity not only to practise a language with a native speaker, but also to get to know a local, through whom one may learn about the local culture, politics and current affairs.

In EF, we have a wide spectrum of native speakers as well as people who are learning not only 1 of the swiss official langagues, but also other languages, it seems a waste not to approach them for help with langauges. Folks who wish to engage in language exchange should post a message with the following info:

i) language(s) that you are learning, including level
ii) language(s) you speak natively
iii) your location
iv) personal interests (eg sport, film, music etc)
v) short introduction about yourself

Do look through the posts and contact someone if the profile makes a good fit good luck!

ps: the intention of this thread is to host posts seeking language partners. If you have a burning story, opinion, question reagarding your experience, please post them, oh i dunno, maybe here

Re: Find Your Tandem/Language Exchange Partner on EF!

Hi!
This thread is a wonderful idea. I hope that my profile will be a match to others seeking fun conversation in English.

i) I am learning German. My level is very basic, as I am in Migros Klubschule level A1.1/1.2. I also studied French a year ago, and am at a conversational level.
ii) English is my mother tongue, I am from the United States (I come from a part of the US where people say we do not have any accent).
iii) I live near Frauenfeld, Winterthur, Wil, and Zürich.
iv) Film, art, culture, cooking, reading, hiking, music
v) I am an American au pair who has been in Switzerland for about 6 months. I hope to see, do, and learn as much as I can about Switzerland while I am here. The deutschkurs I am taking is helpful, but I need much more practice to get better at my german.

I would be happy to converse with an English learner at any level. My main focus is on German, but I would also be happy to improve the French that I started studying a year ago at my hometown university. I am mostly available on weekends.
All the best to everyone looking for a tandem conversation partner!
Judith

i) language(s) that you are learning, including level:

iii) your location:

Lausanne

iv) personal interests (eg sport, film, music etc):

v) short introduction about yourself:

I have a knack for languages and would like to learn as many as I can, since speaking the native language is the best path to a country's cultural identity. I am trying to learn French on my own at the moment, but realised it doesn't help much if you don't get to speak it.

I am friendly, talkative, outgoing and open to meeting people from different national backgrounds.

Furthermore I would be more than happy to introduce people to my native language and my country’s special features.

PM me if you're interested!
