Hi everybody,

I was in Migros School finishing B1/1 German lessons but is not good enough and i would like to choose another school (a strong one) but i would need some advise and to know your experience..I need to finish till C1 with exam for gooing to study.

Hi Edina,

Seeing that you are in Zurich, I would say you have plenty of language schools to choose from. University of Zurich lists a couple of them on this link http://www.uzh.ch/studies/applicatio...ourses_en.html

I went to an Intensive German course at Benedict a few summers back and I have to say I thought it was absolutely useless and a big waste of money. A friend of mine went to Bellingua and she thought it was very good.... so I don't know maybe you'd like to give them a go? Good luck!

I've had good teachers in intensive courses at Klubschule Oerlikon, but have also experienced some not so good. You can always attend a class to check out the teacher.

I went to Berlitz a few years ago. It was damn good but expensive!

I second the post above. Benedict was not so good!

Best German school is:
A Germen speaking girl / boy friend and pillow lessons. Homework is hard though

Just a side note as it may save you some money.

When I studied Spanish I went through one of the sites/schools that offer classes in pretty much any language / anywhere. I figured they'd give me the best deal (and I did compare a lot of them). Then when I arrived I spoke to another student. He had found the school the company used and called them directly. Lets just say he got exactly the same stuff I did (lodging, classes etc) but for way - way less money.

A lot of times the "general" language schools offer programs that are actually offered by private schools/organization and then they add on cash for dealing with the paperwork for you.

If you know where you want to go (city / location), see if you can find the school directly and call them, you may save a lot of money.

I would suggest you to go to the Integration Office in Zürich, they can help you choosing a school that fits your needs, they even have feedback from the students so they know which have a good feedback. More info here

Your contribution might sound like a joke to some of us - but it's the absolute truth. I for myself got final skills in French by living together with a lady from Geneva, later learned Portugese from a Carioca right down in Rio. Before thumbing me down, give this idea a thought.

It's true! I am currently learning English the same way.

My husbent and friends are Swiss (talking with me also high german) helps alot with the laguage and everyday talk but still not enough for studies...But is good ideea to be arround people they talk other languages for learning everyday something new and most of the time interesting...

I will restart just in middle of september the german shcool so i did not decided yet which i should pick, alot of people helped me but having diferent opinions..anyway i`m gonna go first of all in the place sugested by Cristian (thanks again)so there i can talk more in detail about what would i like and how so we can find the best solution or they can sugest the school would fit me better.So i`m looking forward going on Tuesday will tell you more after if you are still interested Greets

I can't say which is best, but I'm certainly enjoying and getting a lot out of my lessons at Swissing.

I have a one hour one-to-one lesson every week, which costs CHF125. I'm aware that this is more expensive than most other schools and I will consider trying somewhere else when I finish this course. I can't fault the quality of the lessons though.

One-to-one has worked very well for me as I did have some school German lying dormant in my brain . . . if I suddenly remember a chunk we can skip on to other stuff quickly.
